Where'd you hear that? Yeah, obviously if it's done in a creepy fashion it will scare us away, just like if a guy comes onto you in a really obnoxious fashion it would freak you out. But this "chase" business in BS, we're living in the 21st century here. Very few guys enjoy the chase, it's just something we put up with, and even fewer self-respecting guys will continue to put up with the chase more than a few months into a relationship.
