Before we get into a fight or anything, here is the history of the name:
Chelsea FC is Stamford Bridge and Stamford Bridge is Chelsea Football Club. For that we have the courage and ambition of H.A. Mears and his mate Fred Parker's dog. Designed by Archibald Leith, who had also designed Ibrox, Stamford Bridge was originally used by the London Athletics Club until Mears and Co got involved. J.T Mears and H.A Mears (Gus) decided to offer the ground to a certain Henry Norris' Fulham who rejected us and decided to go and create something that now has a French manager that likes to whinge about Chelsea a lot. Out of the jaws of defeat came victory as a timely bite on Gus' leg by Parker's dog convinced him that he should go it alone and create a club called Chelsea. Thus from Stamford Bridge was born Chelsea Football Club. 100 years later we retain our original name and ground. As Brian Mears said: "Chelsea will never lose its identity. Chelsea will be for always Chelsea and at Stamford Bridge".
A Hundred years and 3 owners later it seems he was right. |
