Haven't heard anyone comparing Chelsea to the 1970 Brazil side! It would be a silly comparison.

STUPID is a better word than silly.....
C'mon, I like Chelsea, but 1970 Brazil?

Manchester United's success brought it tremendous wealth
Chelsea's tremendous wealth brought it success.

Enough said.

If it wasn't for Abromovich, Chelsea would be bankrupt now and kicking it about with Leeds in the 1st division. Extravagant spending before he came along racked up £80 million in debts, which is why they were sold in the first place.

Since Abromovich has come in, Chelsea have spent more than £200 million pounds on player signings alone. Let me put that into perspective (courtesy of The Independent):

quote:
In just over one year, that’s:
-£55 million more than Perez has spent at Real Madrid in four years.
-Six times what Jack Walker spent between appointing Kenny Dalglish and winning the Premiership.
-Twice the cost of Arsenal’s entire squad.
-Only £32 million less than Alex Ferguson has spent in 18 years at Manchester United.

Players that have come in for Chelski (for your sake I'm only naming the ones that have made an eye catching difference): Duff, Makalele, Bridge, Johnson, Joe Cole, Drogba, Ferreria, Carvalho, Tiago, Robben, Cech. That's enough quality to keep the likes of Scott Parker, Kezman and Jarosik out of the team. Not to mention, Mourinho's record breaking contract. They have bought quality at will and there is no letting up.

ps: face :)

the statistics are subjective though, real madrids main squad has been in place for many years, and they've added to it slowly each season.
it may well have have been twice what jack walker spent, but that was at a time when you could pick up world class players for less than £10 million
twice as much as arsenals squad? again built up over the years, and wenger is reknowned for buying cheap players and making them great
and £32 million less than united, again over a period when ridiculous sums of money weren't paid for players.
and I believe United spent £3 million more on players during the last close season than chelsea
so again, no score, face
