And... even the Yankees can't ALWAYS have the best players at every positions. It's not like you can have BJ Ryan and Brad Lidge setting up Rivera.

I think it will be funny to see Yankee fans reactions when they have a normal closer in 3 years when Mariano can't go anymore. Should be interesting to listen to the radio...

Don't generalize Yankee fans all into one category. I respect Rivera as the greatest closer in the history, I don't see how I'd expect it to always be like that...

Contrary to your belief, there is a lot of smart Yankee fans.

ASTROS WONT BE ABLE TO AFFORD LIDGE BY THEN SO THE YANKEES WILL GET HIM VIA FREE-AGENCY, RYAN WILL BE THE YANKS 7TH INNING GUY NEXT YEAR FOR A nominal fee

If you take 208 million and rearrange it and remanage it to today's stars, they probably could have a loaded bullpen, a good CF, etc. Instead of Kevin Brown at 15 million, instead of Bernie at 15 million, instead of Quantril at 3 million, instead of Jorge at 12 million, etc...

Clean up the books and using the same payroll would net a much better team given better management...

I know. Trust me, I do. I know you're a baseball fan before a Yankees fan, which in turn makes you a smart fan no matter what team you dig. When I say "Yankee fans," I mean Vinny from the Bronx who calls up M&MD and complains about Randy Johnson in May... and now sucks Randy's dick. :p "Mets fans" are the same way. I just think it will be funny/interesting to hear the responses in the coming years.

Well duh. That's with any team. Oakland does it every year with a $60M or less pay roll.

Do you have to be a fan of the sport to be a fan of the team if you were a player of the sport? So I don't have to necessarily follow the league and every player in order to be considered a smart fan since i played the sport for 15yrs of my life. I choose the less involved method, rooting for my home team. Go Yankees.

did any of that make sense?

Yep. And people still haven't caught on to the general idea of it.

Well... I guess I'd consider you a smart Yankees fan. But not a smart baseball fan. :toothless

+1

But knowing about the rest of baseball helps in being a better Yankee fan. Example: when they are trying to trade for someone, or sign someone as a free agent, then I have a better perspective if they are getting slime or gold.

If I follow the other teams more, I have a better perspective of my teams chances against them....
