you know, that's so ironic that you mention weather in iraq....that's kind of what i did my thesis on: A Validation of AFWA's Dust Transport Application over Southwest Asia - basically seeing how well their DTA forecasted for large and small-scale dust storm events in that region. it was pretty interesting and i saw some pictures of a huge dust storm near Al Asad Air Base - blew my mind.

Same here Zewad, when I was there it was with 1st Cav and we were part of a L. Inf unit.

There are lots of different weather variations in Iraq (from experience), dust storms, snow storms (north), and both sides of the hot and cold. Its a bitch to get accurate weather for the flights though, always getting canceled.. *was in BIAP area and always on choppers*

haha, some friends of mine did some extra schooling at Maxwell, and they said it sucked there.

but then again, going to Tyndall AFB for my field training was horrible - not only did the weather suck (29 days of 90+ weather heat, and tropical storm bonnie....), but the A/C in our dorm was busted for the first 5 days. ugh.

You know what, even if the AF is the chair force....as long as I enjoy it and i get a sense of pride out of doing what i do. that's how i really felt when i did my thesis w/ the AFWA folks - it just felt great to do something that possbly made a difference in other people's lives. i dunno how to explain it

Its only Chair Force if you make it that way, us weather guys are Combat Weather, and get attatched to Special Operations units.. Rangers, Special Forces, and some Army Aviation support..

Then theres PJs, and Combat Controllers, who we work closely with as well.

nope NIU is the only one that does or will. you can get a minor @ U of I, and you can do some independent study stuff....but no actual degree.

BIAP is a little south of where I am... Im up in Taji..(30min north of BIAP).... and i beg to differ when you say weather variaitons as far as the greater Baghdad area goes (also from experience)... dust storms - about once every 3 months, snow storms - none here, rain - 3 days (March 10-11, Nov 10) since Feb 2nd when i got here, hot vs cold... hot 118, cold 50... went 6 solid months with not even a trace of a cloud... 1 month left of this hell hole... new guys are already arriving :D w00t! i actually work at a tv station as a producer and just so you know, the 'weather man' doesnt even make his own on the computer. they usually have someone that does all the work for them and they just stand up there and read whatever the hell they are told. easy money. get into it
