it's not a nice street corner at all...more on that from the Toronto Star:
| quote: | Shots rang out on busy Toronto streets crowded with Boxing Day shoppers today, killing one person and wounding seven others.
The first shots were apparently fired around 5:30 p.m. from a vehicle driving north on Yonge St. near Gerrard St., severely wounding one woman in the head.
Police received calls within minutes about seven other shooting victims — including one in the Delta Chelsea hotel, one at a Pizza Pizza, two in the doorway of the nearby Foot Locker and one at a Red Lobster restaurant.
Police have two men in custody in connection with the shootings. They were apprehended at the Castle Frank subway station.
One of the victims shot at the Foot Locker has apparently died. Two of the others shot are reported to be in critical condition at St. Michael’s hospital. One victim reportedly walked into Mt. Sinai hospital.
The wounded include a 16-year-old boy.
Wendy Perry and her husband were staying at the Delta Chelsea hotel when the violence erupted.
They could see the area streets from the balcony of their hotel room.
She said she heard a number of shots go off and the sound of a car squealing away.
"We saw people racing out of stores," she said. "I thought it was fireworks." |

STAFF REPORTER
A 21-year-old Toronto man has been arrested after shots were fired inside a busy downtown nightclub early today.
The suspect was apprehended by officers following a brief foot chase outside the Privilege Night Club on Peter St., near Richmond St., just after midnight on Boxing Day, police said. No one was injured in the incident.
Club security guards had removed a man earlier in the night. He later returned with another male, and a scuffle broke out between the man and other club patrons, police said.
As security staff tried to remove him, a handgun was pulled and two shots were fired into the air, police said. Patrolling officers in the area heard the sound of gunfire and arrested a man exiting the club.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered at the scene.
Alex Madimenos faces several charges in connection with the incident, including two counts of assault with a weapon. |

Amidst thousands of Boxing Day bargain hunters in Toronto’s downtown core, a series of shots were fired Monday evening, hitting six people and leaving at least one of who is known to be female.
The incident took place at a number of locations along Yong Street, and culminated as at least four of the victims were found at a Foot Locker store on Yonge south of Gerrard St just after 5pm.
As the shots were fired along the busy commercial strip, thousands of shoppers hit the ground sending panic through the massive holiday crowd.
“Someone just said, ‘Get down, get down,’ so everybody just got on the ground…it was very scary,” said one witness.
It’s unclear what sparked the incident, but police do have two suspects in custody. The pair was picked up at Castle Frank subway station shortly after the violence erupted and taken to 52 Division.
Authorities also believe they have recovered at least one of the murder weapons.
An off-duty police officer was also shot in the leg during the fracas, but he’s expected to recover. |

actually many US inner cities are worse than the 3rd world. But is that what we aspire to be compared to? The US? I can think of many many better examples of first world nations. |
