I feel a lot safer walking down the streets of toronto then I do the streets of Bahgdad
I think the point is that Toronto is a lot safer then many parts of the world....it doesn't make it acceptable what happened....and I don't think anyone was stating it is acceptable. |

| As tragic as these events are, go to Washington,LA, New York....ect ect and tell me you feel safer.(I once had a police escort me out of Baltimore because I had Quebec plates and that was just to dangerous according to him)My condolenses to the families.Sometimes tragedies cant be avoided but we are very lucky compared to the rest of the world when it comes to safety.Utopia=pipe dream. |

Now lets recap on how many innocents actually got shot to dead in Toronto alone ... lets say in the passed 15 years??? Not enough to put the city in "RED ALERT" & scared us away from walking on the street or doing any outdoor activities for sure. When you find there are people in this city who still leave their front doors unlocked and still think Toronto is such a horrific place to live in? Then I'm sorry, you need to live in the Arctic. ;)
Spend some time travel aboard & live in different places around the world (ex. parts of South America, Middle East, South East Asia, etc.) can help those open their eyes to see the differences especially on the safey aspect. |

I said we are BECOMING a third world country.
People choose to forget the BECOMING word in my statement. And it's hard to deny it.
In the recent past you never heard of these types of gangster style shootouts the likes of what you hear about that go on in places like colombia and vietnam that are now taking place in toronto. In the recent past you never had politicians so open about stealing AND getting away with it. In the recent past you never saw so much direct control by the government over so much of your life as you do now.
Sure we aren't there yet, or even close to it. But we are definately heading down the path toward being a third world country. I said 5 years ago that toronto would be like detroit (which might as well be the third world) within 20 years. After 5 years id say we've deteriorated quite a bit toward that direction.
Remember that 40 years ago Afghanistan was a rich country. Remember that 60-80 years ago Argentina was considered the richest country in the world.
Arrogance, not war is what is a society's greatest downfall. |

| Well it could have easily been ME there..I was in that area around 11am to avoid the bigger crowds...It was just by luck that nothing happened to me...what really pisses me off is that these s will get caught and they will reach a deal with the prosecutor and be out on the street...handguns are ALREADY hard to buy but the dumbass PM doesn't know that these thugs don't GET them legally...Give the motherf**kers hard time...And this ass theory that my tax dollars giving these s jobs well guess what...do you think for one minute these ******s want to work??? they want the lifestyle and the big bucks that comes with the territory through drug deals or whatever they're into...I am sick & tired of this warm & fuzzy appraoch to the problem...hit these animals HARD:whip: :whip: :whip:...I think that if yo are in a gang then these gangs should be catagorized as a terrorist organization. |

..and what makes it worse is that most fail to understand that in the hierachy of things those doing the legwork don't make all that much considering the risks they take. If only they had read:

...they'd understand - but, that's not gonna happen. |

No, I recognized each of your words. Everytime an innocent bystander gets killed in a "gangster-style shootout" it has NOTHING to do with the qualities of a 3rd world country. I guess you have a pretty far-fetched definition of "3rd world country" if you think there is even a remote connection. I feel like you are connecting "crime" with "3rd world countries" which I find very offensive.
I'm sure you'd agree with me, Jay, that our defining characteristics are our medical technology, developed infrastructure, and by-and-large uncorrupt POLICING system (please don't bring politics into this thread :().

Again, I totally disagree with your conclusion re: Detroit. How the can it be a 3rd world country? Simply within the context of crime? You think there is no policing in that city? Chicago had the mob as we all know; has that problem been taken care of now? Relatively speaking? Do you consider the "inner-city" the third world? In terms of poverty, lack of access to education, and corruption in inner-city Detroit (which is the root of their current problems) MAYBE I'll see your point, but that's not the approach you took nor is it the case in Toronto.
Saudi Arabia, despite the most corrupt police and ignorant population that I have ever experienced, is not considered a 3rd world nation.
So, no, sir, despite your wicked laser/lighting skills, I will have to whole-heartedly disagree with your term, "becoming". |
