I remember seeing an interview with Armin and he stated that Progressive Trance is direction that Trance is heading. I been listening to trance music since the early 90s when it was first created. Over the decade, I noticed the Trance sounds changing and heading to a more melodic style since Trance in it's early days was a very bouncy hypnotic sound. :)

trance music have always changed. one who can't notice that isn't listening very properly. but a change doesn't guarantee that it's going in the right direction.
if you look at the melodic trance you can clearly notice that it haven't changed in the right direction. Most producers today look back on the golden years of 97-99 and tries to copy the sound of that time.

What we also can notice is that the trance of today lacks alot of the elements which made trance music trancy in the early days. Elements such as hypnotic melodies, twisted acid riffs, fast paced basslines etc. All these elements could be found in progressive music in the 90s as well.

The downfall of progressive in my opinion started when producers such as Gabriel & Dresden, Markus Schulz, Andy Moor etc started getting hyped. Their mix of house and cheesy trance melodies resulted in an extreamly grey and sour soup. It's neither trancy or hypnotic.
Let's just hope that this trend goes by really soon.

and there's a lot more where they come from. These are the future of progressive, not armin, not schulz, not airwave. L-Vee has done a lot of good, but he's cloning himself too much, and if you can't see behind you beloved gods, that doesn't make you open minded, merely the opposite.

I can't believe someone can actually type that tripe with a straight face.

Just because this music is sub-par does not mean this is the way that trance is heading, and that people are failing to accept it. They just are unwilling to accept disappointing music.

The problem is that people think when they add a twinkle plus a hopping bassline that it is PROGRESSIVE, that has nothing to do with progressive.

I'm a fan of the real progressive and the real trance and this new style (that I liked at the start of his era btw) is just getting a bit too much. There are some recent good tracks that have the trademark twinkle and bass that are just good. But most of the things that gets produced on that genre is just major crap, no emotion, just formula work...

But again I will only judge after I listened to the whole album!

Listening to 2nd disc atm, which is quite tasty actually, sometimes a bit to wannabe deep but on first listen I dig it

I was hoping for something MUCH MUCH MUCH better! I didn't recognize Airwave in this album! Damn what happened to trance? :nervous:

I have the feeling I'm listening to an ASOT show...bleh!:whip: I just HATE those "housey" basslines, those slow rythms and all these little "dreamy" sounds who mades the melodies...what the , where are big riffs? HUGE basslines? and fastest bpm?

For me, it is not TRANCE anymore, and in my car, I only play trance from the old days.
