There's an Acquaviva set on Paxahau that is John @ his prime IMO.
Years ago in London I had a promoter drag me to the booth to introduce me to his wife, who I apparently bear resemblance to. I think I still have that picture somewhere actually...it's odd.
John is actually playing this weekend in Toronto. |

Again a great tribute this week to one of Spain's most famous techno artists
Cristian Varela a.k.a Chris Vareland–Carlos Duran is internationally known as one of the most charismatic artists of the electronic scene. His spectacular 4 deck sets along with his constant tours around the world makes Cristian the number one representative from Spain. Cristian has travelled to many venues around the world including Tokyo, USA, England, Colombia & Canada and all through Europe, he has also performed at many of the European Festivals which include Love Parade (Berlin), The Awakenings (Holland), I Love Techno (Belgium), Techno Parade (Paris), Festimad (Madrid), Liberty One and Nature One (Germany).
He also releases various material for prestigious labels such as Primate Recordings (UK), Primevil (UK), Session Recordings (Belgium), Planet Vision (Germany), Elephanthaus (USA), Pornographic Recordings (he owns together with Marco Bailey) and his own label Donkeyhead Recordings.
He has released more than 35 productions and has remixed such stars as Speedy J, Ben Sims, Marco Bailey, Pascal F.E.O.S & Tim Baker.
His productions have appeared in reviews and in the top tens of the most important DJ´s in specialized magazines such as DJ Magazine, Deejay, Groove, BG, Mixmag & Up Front Magazine. With his first album “New Electronic Audio / Architectures” (Primate), Cristian has shown his maturity and versatility to move among other fashionable styles as ambient, electro and house. hopefully Varela will be in Holland when I am there in the summer then :p
and yes.. Speedy J on the 17th will be a treat.. will you be coming to Toronto for that Kate?
I am also really looking forward to seeing Umek and Kanzyani play as well.. I have never seen either before.. :D |

Ya I will be in Toronto that weekend for sure so I will be checking that out!
Umek & Valentino will be fun… the last time they played Montreal was March of 2003 I believe, at Aria. I used to prefer Umek but now I am more a fan of Valentino. Valentino outplayed Umek that night too. Was a great night though.. back when there would be double or triple techno headliners at Aria! A few weeks before that it was Marco Bailey and Adam Beyer and a few weeks before that it was Christian Smith, Danilo Vigorito, and Thomas Krome was booked but didn’t end up playing…. Ahhhh I miss those days! |
