Ya I will be in Toronto that weekend for sure so I will be checking that out!
Umek & Valentino will be fun… the last time they played Montreal was March of 2003 I believe, at Aria. I used to prefer Umek but now I am more a fan of Valentino. Valentino outplayed Umek that night too. Was a great night though.. back when there would be double or triple techno headliners at Aria! A few weeks before that it was Marco Bailey and Adam Beyer and a few weeks before that it was Christian Smith, Danilo Vigorito, and Thomas Krome was booked but didn’t end up playing…. Ahhhh I miss those days! |
see, I still have a lot to learn about techno so I am just starting to hit up all these events now. So many dj's to see and so many that rarely come to Canada as well or only come every couple or few years by the looks of it.. so I don't have those days to miss yet
Kate, I will for sure have to meet up with you in TO then, since I met your bf Paul when I was in Mtl for BBB/DJ Dan and didn't meet you. (you too Sarah, since we have yet to meet)
and Sarah.. I wish these parties were here.. it would be cheaper for sure! :) But the way I see it, I get to go back to the country I love :p |

The true glory days of techno in Montreal was when Sona was in its prime and since it was packed every weekend, they could basically book whoever they wanted.. luckily Silver Fridays (techno night) the promoters had pretty good taste and actually showcased so many djs here for the first time.. taking "risks" because they could. There were headliners practically 3 weekends out of 4. When Aria first opened and they competed with each other, that was another good period because they were constantly trying to out-do each other with bookings and bidding wars on headliners.. it was not uncommon to say have, Adam Beyer playing at Sona the same night Ben Sims was at Aria.. often you could hit up both in the same night!!
ahhh well... times change :)
sucks there isn't a solid techno night every friday anymore.. when Mateo, Yaz & Preach were residents I think the argument could be made we had the best techno residents on the continent! |

well I guess for me it is a good thing techno nights aren't all the time like they used to be in Mtl cuz I would either have to move to Mtl or go broke travelling there once a month :p
Although if TO keeps up at their rate, I could be attending more parties in the near future! :D |

If someone could ID the TRACKLIST for this set, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks :)
MT
PS: The second track is the one I really want to find out the name of, but if someone could do the set it would be a great bonus! |

ya it didn't last too long.. Sona went to anyway in the spring of 2002 I think.. so some incentive was lost to compete with the bookings.. and we all know Circus does basically sweet all in that department.. nothing consistent anyway.
I remember checking the slot times at both clubs and having to 'plan' your night accordingly! |
