So, yeah, the globe is warming. It has been warming for more than a million years, and as you can see we've been due for it. It's colder now than the Earth is usually, and it's going to take a lot of warming to get up to the point that the Earth tends to naturally gravitate towards (22C).
Yup, it will have some negative effects for certain regions. Personally, I think it's good that we'll have to adapt... we're stagnant right now. |
I do not think such graphs are representative of what has happened over the past 50 years. The global warming itself is not in question.
The question is, whether we have accelerated the process in the past 150 years by indiscriminate use (or abuse) of natural resources. |

Don't you worry we'll make sure you guys suffer severe droughts.
I see it as survival of the fittest. If the suns out the little ginger bastards have to go indoors their the ones who'll suffer.

:stongue: mixed race. Watch out though the Liberals might call the police if they hear you say half-caste!
AFL bet they're the worse they look like a group of rapists. I think they have a Bradley Murdoch esqe vibe to them they look like they bum backpackers to death in the outback. |

It's not supposed to be representative of what has happened over the past 50 years. Whether we have accelerated the process or not cannot be established with a high degree of scientific certainty since no experiment can be created to test the hypothesis (what would the control be? Earth #2, now with no humans?)
The reality is that the globe is going to get warmer whether we do anything or not, so we would better focus our efforts towards becoming more dynamic and adaptable towards changing climates than trying to avert climate change entirely. |

The complications that are bound to come due to Global Warming goes far more then snow turning into rain.
There are already drastic effects happening around the world. Icebergs that were supposed to melt in a slow gradual pace according to past era's, are currently been broken off and melted into the oceans.
If anybody takes an Oceanography class will known about the current conveyor system that basically runs all the currents in the planet .. this currents control about every aspect of this worls climates and effects.. el Nino and La Nina for example.
Besides ecological extinctions, permafrosts problems in the north, infections and diseases bound to spread due to temperature changes around the world, been brought in areas where such never existed, or just the right environment for this diseases to spread easily ( such as that bird flu virus ) .. among others are all just signs of Global Warming.
The scary stuff is in that one degree rise in temperature means more then double the rise of temperature in the Northern and Southern Poles.
Now if we look at the last ice ages.. what happened is that this current conveyors that I was talking about got shut down.. brining an Ice Age withing a 10 year spam. We are accelerating this Ice Age phase... all this Ice Caps in the North and Southern Hemisphere, if melted with huge chunks will release a tremendous amount of sweet water into the North Atlantic ( Greenland its bound to do that ) ..
If nothing its done in urgency we, this generation its practically screwed up. Food and Water shortages will come from this.. it will have such value that you people will just remember this day on TA of thinking that it will not affect you. Its sad how such cure to this problem its been slipped through our hands because of retarded money making politicians. |

Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing because it keeps our planet habitable. However, by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and temperatures are rising.
The vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, it’s already happening and that it is the result of our activities and not a natural occurrence.1 The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.
We’re already seeing changes. Glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing.
The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes has almost doubled in the last 30 years.2
Malaria has spread to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level.3
The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled over the past decade.4
At least 279 species of plants and animals are already responding to global warming, moving closer to the poles.5
If the warming continues, we can expect catastrophic consequences.
Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years -- to 300,000 people a year.6
Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide.7
Heat waves will be more frequent and more intense.
Droughts and wildfires will occur more often.
The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050.8
More than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050.9 |
