I just wanted to use my comparison, had nothing much to do with what I thought of your excellent correction. Although it still makes sense. :p |

If we reduce our emissions today, we CAN reduce them to pre-industrial levels within our lifetime, which is going to have the biggest impact. There have been plenty of studies to show that its not the amount of Co2 in the air, but the rate at which it's put there thats going to have the biggest climate impacts.

Key word: today
Because it isnt going to happen today, no matter how much you and I would like it too. Theres too many idiots playing the "its just media hype card", and too many corporations like Exxon and Chevron pourring millions into campaigns to discredit the idea. |

Yes the earth has experienced massive climate change before, but almost always on an evolutionary scale...the rate at which our current climate is changing is not something that the natural world will be able to evolve too, and the evidence is already there. |
Well, I don't agree with that assessment. It remains to be seen that the world's biodiversity which has successfully overcome major impact events, flood basalt events, sustained volcanism, supervolcanic explosions, severe and extended global cooling, extreme variation in sea level and countless other major disasters that can severely affect climate and other conditions in both a short and long-term time frame will be brought to it's proverbial knees by greenhouse gas levels that will not match (or likely even approach) the highest levels that life has already flourished and continued to develop under.
I'll take the odds on biodiversity, personally - it's a proven winner. |

No but I think more progress is being made than was in the 90s. Im confident that in the next ten years some good will come of the IPCC and forward thinking programs such as Kyoto. Its bull to agree that something is a problem but then to immediately throw your hands in the air. If everyone who thinks its a problem takes the initiative, then things can change. |
