Not fair you get paid extra because you "serve" people directly.

It is your job. There is no need to demand that the customer pay more for your service.

If you don't tip, you don't get good service the next time. That is ransom.

i'd be down with that, because if i didnt get tipped, id make a solid amount more per hour and wouldnt be at the servers' mercy.

minimum wage in PA is $5.15

my last job paid $6.15 and this one pays $8.

im not rolling in the ing dough and i DO do more work than the servers who only deliver food from point A to point B and bitch about being too busy, not busy enough, or making fun of customers for some reason.

i dont mind some of them... and i cant quit because getting a job is a bitch and i need money for college.

i can't stand people who don't tip well. if i'm on a date, and he's a cheap ass, i'll throw down the tip and most likely not go on a second date.

servers get paid a lot less than minimum wage...so in other words, THEY WORK FOR TIPS. their paychecks every few weeks are like at the most, $75. unless my server is an absolute obnoxious prick/bitch, then i leave 20%.

I DO NOT feel obligated to tip. Serving's your job? Then you better ing serve me and serve me well. I'm not gonna tip you just because your job title is server, lol. If you do the minimum required work, you better believe you're going to get the minimum required tip. ;)

If you don't ing like it, you should consider finding another job. Jesus, people sure love to live in fantasy land.

Oh man, on our last day of clinical last semester, we all went out for lunch together. Not only did we have to wait an HOUR before our server took our orders, but it took almost another hour for our food to come. I sat needing a refill of my drink for at least 20 minutes, and my appetizer arrived at the same time as my main course.

Do you think we tipped that guy?? no we didn't.

piss in their soup, and continually ask them if their enjoying it, just to see their faces when they give you a big cheesy grin and they say "damn this is the finest soup ive ever tasted!"

You should count yourself lucky that your not in the UK because we don't give tips here.

I'd look for something else mate. The job title bus boy sounds a bit derogatory if you ask me I wouldn't stand for being called it.

It's a US thing, wages in service industries are factored in to include a tip as part of those wages which is seperate from taxation and more or less a 'required' part of getting services anywhere.

Anywhere else in the world, it's called bribery :D

I guess it’s different in America, but you guys sound like a bunch of cheap ignorant bastards! lol

Serving at a restaurant is like the one job that is a huge exception from minimum wage, and it’s common knowledge that they don’t work for a paycheck, they work for tips...and you are tipping them for the service they provide you because the restaurant doesn’t do that. I don’t know how else to explain it. If you go to South Beach in Miami, they add 15-18% gratuity to all the bills because of all the cheap dumb asses who come here and don’t leave tips lol. I understand that it's different in other parts of the world, but you need to adapt when you travel.

I’ve always been a huge tipper, and you generally get better service when you take care of the people who are taking care of you. That’s just how it goes. I read somewhere that you can tell a lot about a person (mainly like if you’re on a date) by the way they treat your servers at a restaurant.

UK and Au, things like waiting and so on are all under law to be paid at least minimum wages with a proper paycheck, taxes, superannuation and everything else and theyre factored in to protect the workers in those service industries the same as say someone working anywhere else.
By that, youre also expected to deliver the service as promptly and courteously as possible as part of your job and your wages.

Of course you can. Same goes for how you treat ANY person in ANY type of service position. I can't stand rude s who think that just because someone is serving them, they don't deserve the same kind of respect and courtesy as everyone else.

I don't think looking at how your date tips is a good way to judge how they treat people. The server has a job to do, plain and simple...if they're not doing it, they don't deserve the same money that someone who will do the job better would get.

I'm sorry, but when someone s up, I don't pat them on the back and tell them "you did great" anyways. There's no reason to be rude to them, but also no reason to encourage them either.

It's been my experience that you get good service by being kind, polite, and respectful to the servers. Good service doesn't START with a tip, it ENDS with a tip. Big difference there.
