yeah funny we posted the same thing at the same time.
Depending on the state you live in You can have coverage above the HMO level and still come out ahead with the lower taxes in the US. Not only is the service more efficient, but the lucrative aspect of the medical business also attracts the best minds. We need a 2 tier system to stop the Brain Drain going south and basically offer care to those who can afford it with more efficiency if they choose to use it.It can work and people will pay...being affluent should get you some privaledge. You work hard for it why can't you choose to pay a doctor if you can?

I have no problems with a two tiered system provided that it does not take resources away from the public system. This is to say... if all the doctors, equipment, and facilities used in the private system are new (as in additional to the public) then I'm fine with it, however, if even one doctor is less available to the public system because of it then it's not acceptable.

I'd rather be alive and not destitute given the option.

I agree, your system isn't bad if you have adequate insurance, however, if you do not then you might as well be in Zaire (no offence to Zaire, the statement is equally applicable to any ass-backwards sub-saharan hole)

+1... However, in US it's also possible to have the following sequence of events:

heart attack > medical bill drain > bankrupt > heart attack #2 from going bankrupt > dead.

Doctor: 1, Hospital: 1, Funeral Home: 1, You: 0

That's a three way tie, with odd (even?) man out....

My post built upon your post with regard to ambulances specifically.

Yea I’ve been in the ER twice. Once with so-so insurance, and once with really good insurance. lol the time I went with good insurance, I got a CT scan, IV drip for 12 hours, the whole ing 9 yards. lol The other time, I just sat there in pain and vomiting for about 7 hours before they dosed me up with some meds that made me even worse and sent me on my way.

My dad while having adequate medical insurance was killed in the hospital. Person with a history of 2 heart attacks, diabetes, chronic leukemia, high blood pressure, wearing a pacemaker admitted with fluid in his lungs and pneumonia should not be anywhere else BUT I.C.U. However, they put him in a regular room, where he was not closely monitored and his heart stopped in the night. By the time they revived him, his brain died. F*ck US healthcare system. All doctors are f*cking quacks.

I say - if the disease doesn't kill you, the hospital and doctors will. Stay healthy, then.

The US health care system goes kinda like this:

You are golden if you have good insurance.

You are also ok if you are poor enough to get on medicaid, but your choices of doctors and hospitals can be limited and the care you get is not as good as it would be with good private insurance.

You are straight ed if you have too much money to get on medicaid but cannot get insurance for whatever reason.
