Frame rate is the same between 1080i and 1080p, in fact for all video (please no discussion on 29.9 drop/non-drop), at 30 frames/sec.

SCIENCE CONTENT:
The i and p refer to interlaced and progressive scan, respectively.
Basically, your TV draws the image line by line. In the case of 1080p, the image is drawn progressively from line 1 to line 1 080. With 1080i the image is drawn starting with line 1, then line 3, then line 5, etc and after line 1079 it goes back to colour in line 2, line 4, etc up to 1 080....in an interlaced fashion - all within 1 frame, or 1/30th of a second.

The reason film looks different than video is that film is run at 24 frames/sec. 30 fps was chosen as NTSC standard because it's impossible for your brain to process that much information individually, and so we have one smooth, moving picture, without the 'flicker' associated to a 24 fps rate.

What source and what output from that source did you see the choppiness from? What is your response time? What input are you using? What cabling are you using?

Sorry not frame rate of the video, but the frequency being fed to the tv. I don't really feel like writing out the differences, please read this.

As for my TV, I have a CRT, so response does not really matter. I use my xbox (modded) as a source, using component cables.

No offense, but that's gotta be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Of course, everyone would like to have the biggest and the best, but honestly how does a bad sound system, or none at all make a great TV worthless?

Even without a ear-drum splitting sound system, I don't see why the hell he can't just enjoy a nice TV experience. It's like saying "If you don't drive a Ferrari, you might as well walk".

umm...not quite.

Your anology doesn't make any sense either. I didn't say that if you don't have the top of the line TV, then you shouldn't get one. I said that you need to have a decent sound system no matter which TV you get.

A better analogy would be "If you only plan on buying regular gas, there's no point in buying a Ferrari" or something like that.

I'm guessing he's getting a nice HDTV for watching movies or gaming or something like that.
If you want to full experience, you need a nice sound system to go with it. There's no point in watching a beautiful movie if the audio sucks. It completely ruins the experience.

To get the full value of HD, you need an audio system that will allow.

Also, I think we are getting an LCD tv - would you know if there are going to be price drops after Christmas?

Thanks x

The Shine is a beautiful phone and as far as I can tell a solid one. Bell and Telus have a flip type and Rogers has a slider one, all of which are very stylish. I personally love the Rogers slider yet they just launched it and has some kind of software issue. If I were to purchase one, I would wait a couple months to find out all the bugs. The last this you want are the same problems as the Chocolate slider which was plagued with issues. LCD tv prices do come down for Christmas and just after, ie boxing week...

As for plasma, I always suggest staying away, because LCD's don't burn in, and now they are around the same price. That feature alone gives it the advantage in my books.

Westinghouse is a good brand, and is good value for the money. They were actually bought by Toshiba recently.

!!!!! Correction !!!!! LCDs do burn in !!!!!

Stay away from phones that you can't purchase in Canada, unless warranty or support are not important to you.

Image persistence and burn-in are not the same thing.

IP will go away, and is really, REALLY hard to incur. Burn-in, you're pretty much screwed.

Yeah I got a nice burn in on the side of my plasma TV cause of non-widescreen movies and non-HD TV :(
