Lets take your two main real examples, God (religion) and capitalism.
Religion is usually controlled, ruled and guided by laws, which we did not create. What we are allowed to do, and what is possible, was made available by an omnipitant being, whom for the most part, we do not have contact with.
Capitalism (philosophy) is an idea as well, but one governed by humans. We make the rules, we decide if we want to get involved, and we can change the direction, or course the idea takes.
