The religion of Islam has as its focus of worship a deity by the name of "Allah." The Muslims claim that Allah in pre-Islamic times was the biblical God of the Patriarchs, prophets, and apostles. The issue is thus one of continuity. Was "Allah" the biblical God or a pagan god in Arabia during pre- Islamic times? The Muslim's claim of continuity is essential to their attempt to convert Jews and Christians for if "Allah" is part of the flow of divine revelation in Scripture, then it is the next step in biblical religion. Thus we should all become Muslims. But, on the other hand, if Allah was a pre- Islamic pagan deity, then its core claim is refuted. Religious claims often fall before the results of hard sciences such as archeology. We can endlessly speculate about the past or go and dig it up and see what the evidence reveals. This is the only way to find out the truth concerning the origins of Allah. As we shall see, the hard evidence demonstrates that the god Allah was a pagan deity. In fact, he was the Moon-god who was married to the sun goddess and the stars were his daughters. |

And pardon me for making a joke. I'm sorry if you didn't think it was funny, but when someone says something like 'your ing moon god', I'm bound to either comment or clarify. |

Lets take your two main real examples, God (religion) and capitalism.
Religion is usually controlled, ruled and guided by laws, which we did not create. What we are allowed to do, and what is possible, was made available by an omnipitant being, whom for the most part, we do not have contact with.
Capitalism (philosophy) is an idea as well, but one governed by humans. We make the rules, we decide if we want to get involved, and we can change the direction, or course the idea takes. |
I agree with your points. However, religion today is all up to human interpretation for most part. While the core tenets of a religion may be from some sort of omnipotent being, many of the practices are from human ideas.
Take for example, Catholicism. There is nothing in the Bible that the Pope is the supreme priest dude, and that you have to go to a priest for a confession to be absolved of your sin.
These are all human practices.
I guess my point is that in many ways, God or Allah or Buddha has nothing to with many aspects of a religion today, and in many ways, similiar to philosophy from humans
edit: I may be making this way too simplified, but the way I see it, people follow one philosophy, say, Stoicism and live the way that philosophy tells them to do. same with a religion.
whether the idea originated from god or man IMO not so relevant, or make an idea more valid than others, considering how ridiculous some philosophy are |
