As expected... |

for some reason Christians, Catholics, Hindu and Jews don't make the news as much.. so yeah, not necessarily true |
If you had access to non-western media you might see a different perspective. |

Too bad we don't have a channel for news from the past 1000 years. Every religion has its time. There are problems plaguing every religion today. It is Islam's turn in the spot light, and they have some how become the scape goat for the world's inability to live together, peacefully.
Child molesting priests, girls being beaten for being raped (ed!), people sacrificing themselves, the list goes on and on. Sometimes the consequences are not as clear or as well reported. |

that evil is a slippery slope...
This man didn't come up with the about forcing his daughter to wear a hijab, its his upbringing and the a model society he believes in. Its old mentality vs western mentality, not evil vs bad.
It would be like saying that old mentalities are evil. |

Yeah, but where the hell did that come up with choking his daughter if she didn't wear one? Is that something he was raised with? He sounds Pakistani and I can guarantee you if he lived in an educated part of Pakistan (even most rural areas are; it's not just urban environments--I'm trying to rule out the remote villages where warlord customs are still followed) he'd go to jail forever or be executed for what he did.
It's his house, so it's his rules if he wants his daughter to wear what he wants her to wear as long as she lives under his roof. She doesn't want it? Move out! So that's what she did! Everything was moving along fine until he decided to take out his anger on her, and this is something that is not allowed in any religion. |

The problem with society is that they are always looking for a different reason. The guy got angry and killed his daughter. It was not the mysterious forces of good and evil, it was not religion, it was plain anger. His daughter disobeyed him, he got angry. His daughter 'disrespected' the religion that he holds so dear, he got even more angry. He went to choke her, and went too far.
We have read about cases like this in the past, which involve different races, different places, and different circumstances. 'Girl dead after disobeying father'. I know I've seen more than one of those headlines before. |

lol that made me think of Justice League.
But srsly, people like Vrk are not just looking at the surface of the issue but digging a little deeper into the metaphysics of it. I guess it's a religious thing, but I believe that humans have the will power to overcome their anger to do bad things. Guess it's a bit naive but I'm glad someone else agrees with me. |

Of course he had the ability to resist, and he didn't. Thats the point. Nobody forced his hand, nobody/nothing, except his brain made him do it. If you cannot be responsible for your own brain, your own actions, then pay the price.
PS - Incident actually made Digg's front page.

Religion is the root cause of all problems in the world. Some people are so brainwashed by religion its not even funny.
A world with no religion would be a peaceful world imo. |

Nope, because we will have territory which is home to resources. That is really what all fighting is about. Any organism will battle for resources, that is why we can never live in a peaceful world. It is the law of nature. |
