Actually it is. Techno in the broad term. Anything with looped drum beats and synths can be called techno. Jeez too many snobs on these boards. |
i hope you're kidding. the only people who believe this are tasteless oafs who download oakensets on limewire and american sorority girls
do you realize people were making house music with drum machines before the term 'techno' was even coined?
this has nothing to do with snobbery, just getting one's facts straight. it's not a matter of opinion or of preference.
i remember how embarassed i was when i found out what 'techno' really was. when i didn't know any better i thought the same thing |

Gee thanks so much for insulting me and calling me a tasteless oaf. Insulting people who may not understand a word is not snobbery? I beg to differ. I'm sure you can all agree that techno is a term many use to describe edm. Maybe it's wrong and I should just use EDM from now on. Sorry...I'm just used to saying techno but in the future please leave the insults at home.
I first came to this board and thought it would be a cool place but most of you are proving to me that this is just a place for jerks to throw around what they think is intellectualism. The way I was using the word techno was correct and Daft Punk would fit into that. The proper use of the word techno, sure, they are not that. I friggen know that and if you would actually read EVERY post you would know that I know that. But why should I expect people who know everything to read every bit of information. |

Making up doesn't make it correct. |

Yeah...read my post again. I didn't say using techno in a broad sense is correct. I said it's just been done that way and that's what I'm used to so how I understand the word techno to mean both a broad term and a specific genre is correct. Like I said in my post though, perhaps it is wrong ie, what I'm used to and I can start using the term EDM instead of techno to mean dance music. Please don't make me repeat or explain myself again.
I'm not used to people getting their panties in a wad cus I insulted techno by calling EDM techno. |

this isn't 'intellectualism', it's pretty basic. it's like if you go around calling bachata 'salsa' or something.
if you 'friggen' know it then why say it? Maybe if people like you stop using it the wrong way there would be no confusion...
i don't know anyone personally who actually goes out regularly who uses 'techno' to describe anything besides 'techno'.
i'm sorry if you were insulted and that you feel like an oaf. it's ok to feel like an oaf sometimes. i never called you, personally, any of these things. I assume you know better since you said that yourself - I am only suggesting you avoid it to avoid coming off like a tasteless oaf or american sorority girl. no need for the heavy defense ohbe |

No I don't feel like one thanks. I don't know how long you've been in the scene or anything about you and same goes for you to me. I used the term techno, as I said, cus I was used to using as a broad term as incorrect as it may be. And I knew it was incorrect and my posts already illustrated that. I didn't know people get so stuck up about something so simple. So as I've said I will use EDM from now on. The reason I use techno to describe dance music is because often I talk to people who know nothing about it and they understand techno to mean EDM and it's just easier. Yes I should have known better here especially with so many people around just waiting for someone to slip up to take the chance to insult them. Seriously, if you want to correct someone or share some information they may or may not know (in my case I already knew) you should try it without insulting and sounding like a snob. I say sounding cus according to yourself you're not. |

It gets old explaining to people who don't know that electronic dance music is what they understand techno to be. You say electronic dance music and they don't know what you're talking about. Sorry I don't have the patience to do that anymore. And who fricken cares anyway. You know what techno is...great. Who cares if others know exactly what it really means or not. But I guess all of you only talk to people who already know. |

No. I do this every time anyone erroneously calls something techno. My explanation is: "You wouldn't call Coldplay 'metal' because they use guitars". |

Just say "dance music."
Everyone here knows what that means -- and I live in the southern U.S. :p |

Yes. you do. I don't. I get tired of it. I just speak in the terms others understand. Sometimes I'll explain it if the opportunity is there but usually i don't care enough and most likely the person I'm talking to wouldn't either. They'd still call it techno.
I will however say EDM or dance music on this forum since pretty much everyone knows what I'm talking about. Thank you very much all for correcting me in ways that weren't appreciated. |

I don't see the point in carrying this practise over onto a forum like TA. |
