In order that people know what you're talking about, yes. When techno is used on this forum it refers to the actual sub-genre. Whenever you use it improperly, people are going to correct you. Just as when anyone refers to Obama as a Muslim, I correct them. That was the point of the analogy. Just because people say something false thinking it is true doesn't mean that we should all start doing it to humor them.

So...if I believe that techno can be used as a broad term...I am a tasteless oaf. It's not the term or the insult...it's the fact that it's even there. It's not necessary, it's petty and it's weak. It's funny when people can't talk about something they disagree with without having to throw insults at it. |

You've already said that you understood that techno is a sub-genre, thereby meaning that you do not fall under the descriptor that nefardec used... so by using the word improperly despite your knowing better, you are giving off the appearance that you are an oaf.
I really don't get what the big deal is here - this is a classic case of over-reaction if I've ever seen it.
edit: and in your goodbye letter, you referred to an entire community of thousands as jerks... is one isolated use of the word "oaf" really all you were reacting to? Take a step away from the keyboard and put things in perspective. |

You've got it totally out of context. Go to the top of page three. Look at what I said in the quote and what he said afterwords.
I stated I believe techno can be used as a broad term (which I still believe). He stated anyone who thinks that is a tasteless oaf.
It was not an isolated use of 'oaf'. Seriously I can't believe the crap you and others assume about things. It's an attitude I've seen on what seems to be about 80% of posters here at least. It's even coming from you. You keep arguing with me that I wasn't insulted and trying to tell me how I'm wrong, it's silly etc etc...sorry. I don't believe I'm wrong in thinking that techno can be used as a broad term. I don't think you are wrong if you think it can. It's really not an important issue but others seemed to think it had to be, to the point of throwing insults. That's just weak. |

LOL! What the heck is wrong with you? I just said it seems about 80% of posters I've seen are the jerks I'm referring to! Sorry my statement seemed to umbrella the whole community in my 'goodbye speech'. I did not mean to offend you or anyone. I thought people would know if they were one of them or not. I'm not free to label an entire community as jerks (unless they are :rolleyes: ) but I think some people here justly deserve that title. There was no reason to call me an oaf. I've also been called an idiot and other things here. Usually because I simply disagree with someone which a lot of people just don't like. Make light if it all you want. If you enjoy that aspect of the community fine. No reason to make fun of someone who thinks it's lame. One reason I'm going on and on here is because I can handle the crap...well...hehe...I almost couldn't earlier lol but I'm just trying to see if any sense can be put into people's minds cus it's crap to just pick on people cus it's fun intead of actually being helpful. I wonder how many good people have been scared away from here because of that. Judging by the responses to my 'goodbye speech' I'd say a lot. But yeah...do you think I'd still be here if I didn't have thick skin? Give me a break and actually read all the information before talking. I've already had to correct you about 4 times now. |

Sorry...I missed this post. And I get the point. That's why on this forum I will use EDM. Outside of it I will use techno for those who don't know better. And again. It's not like someone just came by and said 'Actually techno is a genre, not like all dance music so you should just use techno around here cus we all know what it means.' To which I would have replied 'thanks yeah I know what techno is, I know lots about most genres of EDM, I just used it in a broad sense cus I do that a lot cus most people don't care. But since everyone knows the difference here, I'll say EDM'. That would have been pretty simple.

Nah I figured out my problem. I frequent another forum that has great moderators that remove insults because that board actually has rules about it so you rarely ever see people throwing them around. It was so rampant here I got fed up for a bit. But I'll just ignore that crap in the future. Thanks to Bojingles for their comment. I think that helped me actually. There is some good stuff here I don't want to miss. I'll just ignore the bad. |
