I don't think you understand the point and neither do those who so adamently share your attitude. Here I thought you were an individual who perhaps had real experience about this. Then I saw on that whole 'tell us about you' thread you're only 22. Please. I got into the scene in 96. You were 10 years old...and in Ohio. Drop the stupid 'techno can't be used as a broad term and we need to educate everyone on it and end ignorance' argument. You've barely even gotten out of your training wheels of life. You may think you know it all, and so did I when I was your age. I'm not saying you don't know a lot about music, you may even know more than me, but when it comes to this subject I think I and some others have learned more about it.
Trust me...Unless you really think the minority (probably 2% of everyone who's ever heard EDM) can change the other 98%'s usage of the term just by explaining it to every person we come across who has heard the music. Good luck with that. I may have been a bit unplugged from the scene for the past few years which actually is because I live in the real world now (getting older and married you kind of need to be more stable) and not the party life anymore and I can tell you your mission is futile. I'm sure most of you hang out with 90% of people who are in the scene already (as I did back then). As a couple of other posters have said; PLENTY of people already use techno as a broad term.
Yes...I've said around here I will use EDM (or dance music bojingles)since everyone understands it...but all this actually reinforces everything I was saying earlier...where was the support when I needed it?!?!? |

So basically what you're saying is if 98% of people are Nazi's who think we should kill all the jews and gypsies, then the 2% who aren't Nazi's and don't think we should kill all the jews and gypsies should just "get with the program" because we're not going to change anything anyway?

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying. Thank you for your amazing translation of what I said. I was hoping everyone would understand that using the word techno properly is just as important as genocide and that my reasoning on that issue is the same for any other issue involving popular thought. |

You're more than welcome to shrug it off as meaningless, but the analofy is apt, and whether you like it or not it's the exact same logic that's being used in both situations, so it isn't as if it's my problem that you're willing to settle for being "wrong" even though you know better.
It's never anyone else's problem when an individual is content with being a complete and utter failure.

Ouch...wow you totally pwnd me. Thank you for your 3rd grade logic.
Because one sort of logic makes sense in one situation does not mean that it applies accross the board in every way.
The use of the word techno, and the issue of genocide are hardly as important as each other. 98% of people could care less about how they're 'supposed' to use the word. Even if you tell them...it will probably only change a very small portion. If for some reason 98% of people all the sudden started thinking like nazis and wanted to kill those they believe to be inferior to them, then of course hopefully everyone in this forum would think that the reamining 2% should fight that ideaology to the death if necessary.

You're more than welcome to re-read the thread to figure out where you went wrong on your own, but I have to imagine that would be quite the depressing experience for you, so proceed at your own risk. I'll give you a hint though - I never once said that genocide and "techno" were the same thing (though at times certain artists have made it feel close).
And I think I'll just let the trend of leaving the moronic comments to you continue - you're doing a bang up job of making them on your own. ;) |

What you did was think it's appropriate to apply reasoning for something as insignificant as the word techno to reasoning about a topic as important as genocide. That is just not how logic works. That's like defending a mass murderer in court with the argument people who shoplift often get away with just a fine and no jailtime therefore your murdering client should get the same treatment because you know...any sort of reasoning involving one type of crime should apply to any other crime. |
