I don't think you understand the point and neither do those who so adamently share your attitude. Here I thought you were an individual who perhaps had real experience about this. Then I saw on that whole 'tell us about you' thread you're only 22. Please. I got into the scene in 96. You were 10 years old...and in Ohio. Drop the stupid 'techno can't be used as a broad term and we need to educate everyone on it and end ignorance' argument. You've barely even gotten out of your training wheels of life. You may think you know it all, and so did I when I was your age. I'm not saying you don't know a lot about music, you may even know more than me, but when it comes to this subject I think I and some others have learned more about it.

age has nothing to do with taste. tasteless oafs are still tasteless oafs when they are 60. trust me, i grew up in ohio after all.
(maybe you've forgotten that techno originated in suburban michigan?)

Way to make Ohio seem all buckeyeish. Now that my grandma died in that state I'm convinced she's in hell farming wheat. All because of you. Which is what is killing the scene imo. |

if you have been in the scene for that long, then you must really be a ing idiot if you still believe that it's ok to label any electronic dance music techno. see what i did there?
i'm going to guess i've been out more in the past 6 months than you have in your oh-so-long obeone life |

Well seeing as I know nothing about your life but only about what you say here, maybe you have been out more in the past 6 months than I ever have. Who am I to say otherwise?
I really don't think it matters whether it's 'ok' to label edm as techno. It's not an important issue to me. What I know is that even when I was majorly in the scene, lots of people in the scene called EDM techno. Of course it doesn't make that usage of the term right. That's just how it is. No amount of explaining it to every person is going to change it. Even people who have it explained to them, or already know that techno is a genre still call it techno. I just don't care to correct people on it anymore cus it's futile and unimportant.
By the way in case you missed it in the post you quoted of me...I said you may even know more about music than me. You may know a lot of 'information' that I don't know. But knowledge and experience are totally different things. |
