On that point, why do you still live here? |
If you havnt noticed already, most of my complaints are about complainers or about forced behaviour modification. The arguement about moving away from the zone is no different than my arguement against bans. They both consistantly address the interference of government into private citizens' lives based on the moral values of a select group of people.
I could turn around and say that if people don't like others driving with cell phones or paying garbage fines then why dont they go live somewhere else? And to a certain degree it's something i believe. |

Whether it's illegal or not people are still going to do it. I'd prefer it if the government focused on running the economy and all those other important things than "protecting me and my family". If I wanted government protection then I would've stayed in Communist Poland  |
Even there im sure you were free to drink and smoke as you pleased. |

Behind the wheel? Hell yea!!
Seriously though, yes, you could buy alcohol and cigarettes wherever and you could drink and smoke it whereever you wanted. Nowadays you can't drink in public because they wanna get all the drunk bums off the streets; but you can still buy anywhere and anytime. Even if it's 4am. |

Being in a business where I deal with car accidents everyday I have heard of more accidents due to people being distracted because of passengers in the vehicle or because they were changing the radio station then I have due to talking on the cell phone, eating, using GPS or text messaging.
So if we are going to ban these items that distract people from driving then lets ban everything else that could be a distraction. We might as well ban people from having accidents because those are a distraction to your driving. |
Exactly... further more MP3s are actually safer than changing Cds and tapes although compared to the two they sound like crap... but i digress..
But hey i guess all is well with the world when we remove responsibility of choice from ourselves and place it in the government's hands right? |

Interesting how the only thing that has been addressed is the cell phone ban. What about the other bans or regulations?
Are the garbage fines fair and should they even be allowed? |

nothing in print that details it as much as what i saw. But im waiting for the newsnet story to come around again so i can try to quote it.
In the meantime i found an article about flipflop mcguinty's comments almost exactly a year ago on this subject
| quote: | Premier Dalton McGuinty says he won't follow the lead of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador and ban cellphones behind the wheel.
McGuinty said it is dangerous to talk and drive, but he's not about to ban it.
He said some people also distract themselves by drinking coffee, eating and applying makeup while driving.
But McGuinty said he wouldn't know where to draw the line and what habits to outlaw.
Quebec's transport minister said she's prepared to restrict cellphone use behind the wheel in a bid to crack down on dangerous driving.
Newfoundland and Labrador brought in a cellphone ban for drivers in 2003

reality is...there is already laws in place that if enforced would cover all these driving related issues....so how about enforce the laws that already exist instead of just creating new laws.
| quote: | Careless driving
130. Every person is guilty of the offence of driving carelessly who drives a vehicle or street car on a highway without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway and on conviction is liable to a fine of not less than $200 and not more than $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, and in addition his or her licence or permit may be suspended for a period of not more than two years. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 130.

they were just on live on ctv. The ban includes all devices unless they are "hands free" but even the hands free devices cannot be dialed or you are breaking the law. You also cannot use these things while stopped at a red light. The OPP is also addressing pulling over and said they will be issueing fines to those who stop illegally to use devices.
