Howard Moscoe's assertion that "we are just getting our feet wet" scares the crap out of me. Honestly.

I meant as a pedestrian.
Even choosing to not drive is not enough. In fact, you may even be less protected on foot.

I never once said I'm for this legislation. I only think phone use is a distraction and people need to be protected.

pedestrians dont do much to protect themselves as it is. They strut across the road without looking or caring that a car is coming because it's their "right". I dont care what the law says, i always make sure that im not about to get run down by two tonnes of steel whether i feel i have the right to be there as a pedestrian or not.

pedestrians (and bike riders for that matter) need some lessons on how to share the road.

you can't just stop at cell phones then....ban everything that is a distraction. Cell phones are no more a distraction then passengers in a vehicle.

Yes, there are certain things that you just shouldn't do when driving, like shaving or putting make up on...or like I saw this morning, a woman doing her nails. Should we just ban all these activities or should we just enforce the careless driving law and start fining these people or throwing them in jail. We don't need duplication in this law.

That actually is wrong. Numerous studies (and probably your own experience) can tell you this.

A lot of the times when I'm driving, there's another person (who is also a licensed driver) sitting in my passenger seat. In difficult (potentially dangerous) situations, the passenger normally stops talking and waits until the situation passes over. They're able to judge the situation by looking at the road, as well as at your face (see you tense up).

The person on the cell phone is unable to do so and continues to talk no matter how dangerous the situation around you is (obviously until you tell them to shut up - but somehow i don't see that happening).

Hence, cell phone calls are more dangerous than passengers talking.

However, I agree that we don't need another law. We already have "careless driving" laws that govern this.

Ontario needs a ban on introducing new bans.

I ing got a jay walking tickets 4 years ago in University... I didn't pay it, then they suspended my license! So I had to pay like 200 bucks to get it back!

My ass the laws are trying to protect me. If you wanna protect me instead of handing out tickets to 100's of students on a street corner for jaywalking go and catch people driving home drunk... morons...

Bikers especially. But yea...welcome to Ontario/Canada. I love how pedestrians are treated in most European countries though.

Here is a way for the left wing behavioural control freaks to exert some control WITHOUT CREATING ANY NEW LAWS.

Try enforcing traffic laws on all the erractic bicyclists downtown before one of them ends up under my wheel. They defy red lights, drive the wrong way on one way streets and weave though moving cars without any regard to their own safety. If im not mistaken the cops can charge a bicyclist just the same as a car under the highway traffic act. So how bout it mcsquinty or david douchbag? How can you resist such a money grab? Oh i forgot, its those idiots that actually vote for socialists in the first place. The worst part is that if i actually hit one of these loser bicyclists i will most likely be the one automatically at fault. I guess it's just easier to stick fines to home owners who accidentally confuse garbage with recycling!

And while we are at it... any pedestrian that steps out onto the street without a proper right of way should automatically be at fault if they get struck by a vehicle whether it be by charge of jwalking or just not charging the motorist. Almost daily i have to slam the brakes thanks to a jwalker who doesnt even look to see if a car is coming or does and doesnt seem to care. I dont support a ban on j walking but i do support that if you j walk that you take FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR BEING OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. Also pedestrians should remember that a stop sign applies to them. If a car is already moving through an intersection you arent supposed to just start crossing anyways. You wait till the car passes.

Again... no new laws needed here. Just an equal application of the current laws

Europe = full respect for pedestrians when they have the legal right of way. BUT..... if you dont belong out in the middle of the road you better ing run like hell!!
