Nah Vanguard is too old, and the range of sounds you can make with it are limited. It cannot compare to z3ta.

Vanguard sounds harsh, digital, plastic and seriously fantastic, its my most used synth of all.
If used correctly it just rocks.
It has an awesome amount of waveforms, and filters.. and the effects sucks big time.
And it can create the most wicked acid lines!

you know wuts good omnisphere

a mate of mine tried omnisphear and was pissed it took so long to download because it sucked..lol

most of these newer synths do the same , they all just try to out-preset each other.

So was z3ta when it came out, so was absynth, and FM*, and about 40 other synths. Most of them are still bad :P And I bet most pros [people who actually sell their music and support themselves with just that] still use simple stuff like virus, 303, and similar software vsti the only real difference these days in the synths is the GUI and the presets, and +/- a few features. Nothing ground breaking.

If you really want to know how good a synth is, get it, erase every preset [don't lsiten to any] and start making a sound from scratch, then decide if its worth it based on how long it takes, how difficult it is, wether its capable, how much resources does it use etc etc....then you decide.

I feel many people decide what synths are good or bad based on what people who visit forums say.

you shouldn't be talking, you said an lfo improves a signals waveform. that makes you the biggest newb on here, go back to mp3 encoding

Aaaand you obviously still don't know what a waveform is.

Edit: And I'm pretty sure you don't understand what a signal is either, otherwise you wouldn't use the term "signal[']s waveform".

if thats how you think and you come to decide that with either of them, then you have problems. This whole a/b test wasn't dealing with waveforms at all they were signals

A waveform is the amplitude of a signal over time. To talk about it in qualitative terms, i.e. "improving" it, is completely ridiculous.

Modulating a signal with an LFO changes the signal. Assuming it's an audio signal, whether or not that "improves" the actual sound is an entirely subjective judgment and depends on what the actual modulation was.

You really can't make many interesting sounds without envelopes and LFOs.
