Maybe positive by this threads standards (even though I scored his set the lowest out of all the djs I saw and pretty much blasted his productions). But no, I don't have the Abercrombie disease just yet :p
The first two deadmau5 sets I experienced were so boring that this one had no where to go but up.
Anyways, I've never seen an across the board thumbs down for one dj in a review thread as this one. lol |

INFINITE PROPS TO MTLTA
Taken from NIGHTLIFE MAGAZINE
BEHIND THE MASK - Deadmau5 gives dance music a high-fidelity enema
Christopher Paré
He may have lost the Grammy to Justice, but Toronto’s Joel Zimmerman isn’t shedding any tears. He’s too busy being fitted for new mouse heads to care about award shows and red carpets. Yes, mouse heads. The high- concept headwear is heavy indeed, but so is the mantle of success: Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”) was named producer of the year in 2008 by DJ download site Beatport; he has a Juno award for dance recording of the year and is up for another statuette this March. (Zimmerman has two tracks up for dance album of the year.)
In a way, Deadmau5 is Canada’s answer to Kanye West: exceptionally talented, outspoken and mired in sweet contradiction. His admirers are legion, as are his detractors – typically online, and almost always anonymous.
Sacred cows, beware: Deadmau5 is in the house.
I hear you were being fitted for a new mouse head today?
Yeah, I spent the better part of my day in’ encased in goo.
This isn’t just headwear – it’s actual technology. What does it do?
That’s so top secret right now and not something I want to disclose until I bust the thing out and melt some faces with it.
On your MySspace page, you talk about not coming from a DJ or club background.
Not at all.
This may sound like a bit of a rehash, but...
Are we recording this?
Yeah, I’m recording.
OK, ‘cause this is a very touchy subject and I’ll hang up the phone if it gets out of hand. This is old news, and I’m not interested in...
I was going to ask about your music – you don’t see tracks crossing over all the time. People get off to your stuff as much at a big circuit event as they would at some underground party. I can’t think of the last person who did that.
I think it’s exactly what you just said. All my music is kind of written from an uneducated, spectator standpoint. Part of the process in the studio here is I like to nod my head and keep it interesting...I like to keep my margins wide.
Does it work because you’re coming at it from a different direction?
Possibly. I like good-sounding sound. I’m a fidelity nut. If you can get that same good, transparent fidelity out of a rock recording or a jazz recording it turns me on just as much.
Why do people react to you the way they do? I just listened to Ghosts and Tapes and you totally riff on that hater at the end of the track.
You know what it is? It’s the Internet. I have never once played a show where someone came up to me and said, “you’re a prick” or “this sucks” or “I had the worst time.” The brunt of the negativity has come to me from online, and that’s just the rule of thumb – anonymity plus an audience is a perfect recipe for total...tardness. You know what I mean?
hahahahahhahahahahahahhaahhahahahhahaha |
