Armin WOW totally beyond expectations... but waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many breaks, i don't recall dancing like there was no tomorrow more than 5-10 minutes at a time... he played harder, and breaks were not too long so... i won't complain. He made my night. Best set i heard from him.

unfortunately for him he had a minor technical problem when getting 2nd track in i guess a cable must have been unplugged... well it sound like it... when it was repaired... a train hit us, banging as always :)
king louis delivered a SOLID set, uppercut was also in the zone...
saw 5 minutes of axwell...so can't say
missed ana paula...
deadmau5 seemed like everyone went numb and started to say: calderone right now please... but i loved his set... maybe 2 mixes i found meh... but gotta love the way he threw in supermayer - two of us and the sky was pink later on in his set. The more electro part of his set was great. |

Markus was really fantastic, Above & Beyond were boring for me, they played alot of really generic stuff inbetween playing their greatest hits volume.
Markus played alot of stuff similar to his other live sets such as JOC - New Jersey, Chakalaka's Time Gate (and the version with The New World), Daydream (Ronski Speed Remix), Spaceman (SVD Mix 2), Cosmic Gate - Sign of the Times, etc. If you listen to his Miami liveset on GDJB 4-02-09, its a good representation. His mixing was absolutely spot on, great transitions and he definately delivered. Really enjoyed hearing Dave 202 - Generate The Wave from him too.
Above & Beyond played a few nice suprise (Sean Tyas - Lift) was fantastic, but they just played so much generic stuff (with lots of blah intro / outro mixing) that I just couldn't really get into it.
Caught the first 10 tracks of Armin's set or so, pretty similar to the TL's hes been playing in other places, he was definately really happy and into it, but some of his mixing was definately a bit off, there was a few rough mixes right from the start. Looking at the TL above, it looks like Elevation - Biscayne was the most popular tune of the night, played by Markus, A&B and Armin. I was keeping the TL on my phone as well, and the first 10 match up, nice job on the whole thing!
Only really caught Ana Paulo in the house room, was she even mixing??? She spent so much time just walking in front of the equipment singing out words and clapping, it really seemed like she was playing a pre-mixed CD, and she would occasionally like change CD or something (like there were LONG spurts of time when she wasn't behind the decks at all).
Picking up last minute VIP tickets really came in handy, it was like a 20 minute wait arriving at 11. The regular line looked gross by that point though. Interested to see how ty the pictures from one of the disposible cameras turn out! |

First off: Last track Armin played was Mindcircus - Way out West (Gabriel & Dresden remix)
Review:
What a night!
KingLouis Started things really nicely in the house room, he played some very good house including semi-commercial tracks! Really got the party started well.
Then I went to the Trance room and stayed there till 11h50;
Markus: Good set, love the track selection especially The Killers - Spaceman SVD Remix part 2.
Above & Beyond; A lot deeper then last time, the set was good but I expected them to play there big hits like Satellite, Razorfish, No One on Earth, Siren of the sea! At least they drop Alone Tonight! I was going insane!
Armin: For a reason after the first few track, I wasn't feeling it then half way in is set I was dancing my ass off! Great mix of mashups, old track and new ones! Really like the finish with Communication Part 3 and Way out West Mindcircus (G&D Remix)
Shah: Didn't know what to expect! He played mostly all his productions, very slow set, but since I was soooo dead It was fine.
Decor: House Room had a really nice screen behind the DJ, Trance room had finally lazers and some wicked LED on the DJ Booth and also hanging from the ceiling.
Overall this was a good Bal en Blanc, not my favorite one but close!

Had a good time...
it was fun, pretty easy to get around- no stress and lots of pretty ladies.
music was standard- nothing blew my mind, but i wasn't covering my ears either... i did think armins mixing was a bit abrupt..
ended up just being a good night with friends, really happy i decided to go- |

Overall I had a WONDERFUL time. The sets as a whole weren't as great as the last two years but I had tons of fun with the people around me. I really loved Markus' set and unfortunately it was so early because I worked it hard really early which I try not to do especially if I hope to make the entire party. Above & Beyond were good as expected but at times too trancey. Good though. After that made a solo venture to the house room and damn Axwell rocked it. Stayed around for the beginning of Deadmau5 and when he came on it was like the second coming of Jesus. His first couple of tracks were good but decided to go back to the trance room. I thought Armin was good off and on but his sets aren't really my idea of a great time merely because of musical preference. He too was like Jesus...people are nuts. He ended off well with Mindcircus. Roger Shah started with Going Wrong and I was pretty much like this I'm out. At that time in the morning you can't have someone playing that stuff he is a good DJ just bad time slot. Went to house room for literally 5min thought Calderon was sick but couldn't force myself to stay up anymore...this year I survived on pure motivation no caffeine even! Danced the whole time...
Oh and the speakers in the trance room in VIP next to the booth were total . |
