I paid my money to experience the music of the artiste on the stage. What gives somebody else the right to have another musician play along with the people on the stage.
WTF?
Can I take a guitar or trumpet and play it during a Celine Dion or Beyoncé concert??!!
Can you talk a lot during a movie at the cinema??!!
It's disrespectful, impolite, selfish (the drummer is getting satisfaction), unfair AND NOT WHAT I PAID FOR! http://img.tranceaddict.com/images/...ons/evilbig.gif
And most of the time their beats were off... not in time with the music.
Seriously... this is utter e. NO MORE DRUMS IN BAL EN BLANC (unless the artiste on stage brings his own people.)
This should be for open-air, Woodstock-style events. |

So many trancecrackers whining about the trance being "too epic" or "to hard" or "too techy".... It's trance, who cares.
Sasha I think the setup was way nicer this year then last, at least in the trance room. Maybe it's cause i didn't go to the tiesto show, but honestly, this party is all about the vibe and friends for me, and I think it did pretty well in that department.

OK now for my review
I won't review the house room. I don't go there, it's pure evil, not my music style.
Entrance:
Arrive at 22h05 and was on the dance floor at 22h11. I had VVIP, so I skipped regular lineup (omg it looked long), skipped VIP lineup, and skipped coat check and skipped search lineup. I did get searched, just skipped thelineup.
Walking from search to VIP room
I fainlty heard the evil house room music :stongue: and was happy that it was only for a brief moment.
As I walked into the trance (not tech room *sigh*)I noticed something different... unless I'm a total retard, but I thought the dance stage used to back to back to the VIP bathrooms. I really felt there was so much more room to dance, no cramping up against half naked men. This is the first year I dared to go right in from of the DJ and enough room to flail my arms.
Can someone confirm that the dance floor formation was changed?
I had access to special VIP, so I got complimentary drinks and what not. That was very accomodating.
Props, decors, equipment, bathrooms
I paid 30$ extra for VIP bathrooms. All I got was 10 minute lineups just to piss away my redbulls. I'm quite enfuriated by the fact that the other bathroom that was right outside of VIPs reach was allowed to be shared with the common folk. In sum, I did not get my money's worth in that aspect. Thank god the medical staff somehow thought we were staff and let us go to those bathrooms.
Which led me to see a few sick people... disappointing. Also someone on a strecher. happens, but people... please be careful.
OMG lasers were a nice touch... after 3 years... wow. Could've had a few more, but cudos on the laser touch.
There was definitely something wrong with the equipment placement. I was right in front of Markus, almost able to lick him... but a major dead spot. Facing him on my right hand side, the music was so low I was having a normal civilized conversation with my girlfriend. On the flipside, I didn't need my ear plugs while I was there.
Music review
I wasn't really there for Insomnia and didn't stay past 8am for AVB's second half and obivously not there for Shah.
Markus Shulz
I love Markus, always loved his style, he's much harder, faster and doesn't limit his tracklist to the same repetitive sound. He played some sweet ass track. I got exactly what I expected, a great jump start to my evening. Plus this guy is funny, I chatted with him for a bit, so that helps my "positive view" of this dood.
Above & Beyond
A&B's set was one big blur. It seemed I heard one 3 hour track. They played much better at BEB 13. My impression agrees with everybody elses: Nothing very impressive. They played some of their older, fluffy, repetitive sounds. Plus it doesn't help to have your evening disrupted by house music dance theme with funky dancers... What the hell???
Armin Van Burren
I can only attest until 8am.
I heard AVB since BEB 12... and wow I was pleasantly surprised. Compared to his previous montreal sets, he finally, omg thank god and whoever had the higher power to influence this, he played like a champ. I danced like a madman. I didn't stop for breaks, no bathroom, no water, no redbul. Sheer energy and motivation. My faith in him has been restored. Unfortunately, I went so hard that I had to give up by 8am :(
In sum, Woohoo for Markus, meh for A&B, and woohoo for AVB. VIP bathroom crappy, more dancing room, dead music spots, but an incredibly wonderful party. I will come back next year.... well depending on your DJ lineup :toothless
I hope you guys didn't give up half way.. this turned out to be a longer review than expect.
P.S. My friends said that the house room wasn't great. |

got there at 11:00, was inside by 11:35. small line-up for the VIPs, quick search, great service overall. Thumbs up to beb for making sure VIPs are treated like VIPs!
Caught the end of King Louis set. there was already a good size dancefloor at that time, I guess people finally understood that they should arrive early. Uppercut played a few good tracks including a classic that I can't remember the name early on, but bit too commercial so we quickly moved to hear Markus which was the plan anyway. Schulz propably played the best set in that room for my taste. Can you call it the techier side of trance, with much less breaks and unicorn melodies? I don't know, but my friends and I really like this to start off the night. Above & Beyond were ok, but for me MS was better considering he played an early time slot as well.
Armin started off with some cool tracks, but it quickly became annoying with the long breaks so we moved on to check out Mau5.
After spending the entire night getting pounded by hard trance beats, the transition to Deadmau5 was extremely painful. The beats were funeral deep...zzzz...some really interesting tracks, but just not the right time and event to play them. This is beb, people need to wake up at 8AM!!! The rest of the set was unequal with some good and bad. The timid crowd reaction at the end of his set said it all...
Calderone played a sick set, twisted as hell. Unfortunately by then, my back was hurting and the energy was gone. Once again, way too late to hear such good music.
I really like the way they set up the rooms this year. VIP was easy to access, the trance room was huge so there was enough space for everyone to dance and walk around. |
