I really can't count how many times have I attempted to record this mix. Dubstep (at least the kind I like) is really hard for me to program properly, and I'm very anal when it comes to flow. Also, some of these records are such bitches to mix - especially that TRG on Tempa. ing hell, I've never got it right, and you can hear some trainwrecking there, too. I tried to mix real fast, I've always felt the set lost lots of energy when I kept the record play for too long.
Anyway, hope some of you will enjoy it; this challenge has at least made me to actually finish a mix, if anything (hello DuBam) :p |

Well, here’s my take on Hardstyle. In the past I’ve occasionally dwelled into hardtrance and techtrance territory, the likes of Cosmic Gate, Flutlicht, SHOKK, stuff like that. But never have I done anything like this. First off I have to say big thanks to Teezdalien, who pointed me into the right direction and gave me some uselful tips and names to start my search. Researching this mix was great fun, mixing it even more, being used to bpm's under 130. :p I noticed the hardstyle genre is pretty broad and has rather vague definitions, so I tried to include a bit of everything. There’s the more mellow and cheesy stuff, the tranzy kind of records bordering on tech- and hardtrance, banging tracks that are on the verge of plain stomping techno, and some tunes that are more leaning towards hardcore. I ended the mix with a classic that might be more hardtrance than hardstyle, but I felt it was good closure for this set. A peculiar and rather funny aspect of hardstyle I found, is the prolific usage of wacky, goofy or even completely random or pointless vocals and lyrics, often brought by so-called MC’s. I don’t know how real hardstyle fans appreciate them, but as I found it awfully funny, I for one couldn’t resist putting a lot of those vocal tracks in the mix. :D

So, just ran through this. It covers the different bases very nicely into one coherent mix, and really picks up the pace nicely with the Evanti-tune. Made me want to start making a mix like that of my own.
Inevitably, the tunes were quite the mixed bag, as I'm more partial to the twisted technoey stuff. For instance, I don't think I've ever heard a single DJ Isaac-tune that I've liked (that includes his hardcore-stuff). On the other hand, that first Zany-tune is an absolute skull of a track, and I mean that in a good way. Not as good as his hardcore releases (like his work as part of Shadowland Terrorists), but still.
Good work. |

Anyhow, enjoy the musics. |
And that I did!
Funny because listening to this totally brought me back. I actually kind of forgot but a few years ago there was a period in which the only form of EDM I was being exposed to was Eurodance.
That was because I was a big anime fan, and Initial D was one of my favorites. I don't know if you (and meat!) are familiar with the show but the soundtracks are basically all Eurodance which (I may be wrong) was all produced for the show itself. The music here was great but you have to listen to Initial D's Eurodance, it is just fantastic!
Anyway well done here mate. Not the stuff I listen to today but I enjoyed this from beginning to end. |

Hey Jasperovitsj had a chance to listen to this earlier, really enjoyed it.:)
I really like your selection of tunes and the way you've kept it diverse. Some of the transitions are rough but really liked a lot of them. Although I tend to prefer the darker, techy stuff to the hardcore like style, that Evanti tune is MASSIVE!!:toocool:
I don't really listen to that much hardtyle thses days but used to love it a few years ago. I just get this really empowering feeling when mixing good hardtyle.
Good work mate. |

| Put a few of these on my iPod to listen to while on my weekend vacation up to Buffalo... will have comments later. I'm especially curious about the dubstep one, I haven't really explored the genre much aside from Burial, Loefah and Zomby so this should be interesting. |

| Listened to the Tech House and Psy sets. Liked the Tech House one and the Psy, while not generally something I like, I enjoyed a bit. |
