you are probably taking the piss, but have you done that the mix out you probably lost the floor after playing that andy jay powell track. what is the point of going off hard with the cevin fisher track if you are following it up with a static trancer? and then going into sparser techy stuff to go into a housey track to go into something like push upstairs. also, the mix from lectrolyte into singing in my mind had was offphrase by a beat. the other transitions made some sense but not really. it was just when the last track was over i was think of that was that, not 'oh me, i'm going to hear it again'. it could have been better but you did some bad choices in programming. |
Well it certainly is hard to cram the idea of Ibiza Trance and Balearic House in an hour the way I wanted and that was my main goal; not to "keep people on the dancefloor", because I know this was gonna be listened to in a computer chair. It was simply supposed to be fun, nothing more.
Your insight is much appreciated nonetheless and thank you so much for checking it out. I just think maybe you're looking way too hard into it. I mean look at the cover for s sake. :p |

| kenny, here is a tip. don't use the "it was a joke so you shouldn't look further" approach with any criticism, it makes you look like an idiot. |

I never said it was a joke, I said it was fun. Two different things.
^THAT^ makes you look like an idiot. ;)
Geez, man, people here take input the wrong way so often. |

Purist might not feel that I stuck to the genre, but this was just my twist on the general sound of Ibiza Trance and Balearic House after I had done the research.
| Hey, I've been a EDM fan since around 1988 and no where have I seen a law stating that all DJs must stick to their genre, while DJing at a club or a rave. :p But if there is such a law, someone please show it to me. :p Hell, when I started to learn how to DJ, in 1994, I would hear DJs like Talla 2xlc, DJ Wag, Kai Tracid, and DJ Dag mix it up, all the time. During a whole night, at a club, you would hear them drop mostly hard trance and mix it up with club trance. And you would see them also drop some techno tunes and house tunes, in there, too. And I support this way of DJing. Change up is nice, during a whole night of dancing. It keeps people on their toes.
Just don't go too far and mix a happy hardcore tune with your mostly trance set...That "might" be going a little bit too far, I think....Depends on the situation...if you have a happy hardcore DJ right after you, on a multi genre stage, it might be cool to make your last three or four tunes happy hardcore. But if you are DJing at a techno\trance club......no...People are expecting "drastic" changes at a multi genre stage. People at a techno\trance club are expecting tunes that range from 140bpm to 150bpm.. I don't think they would be very amused if all of a suddenly it went to a 175 bpm cheese song. But they're not gonna care if you drop a house tune in with your trance tunes...as long as the tune is nice.
As long as it goes in well, with the tunes that you are mixing, it's all good. :) You just gotta program your tunes right and keep an eye on the people for reaction on the flow of your mixes.....but for the most part, if the tune is rockin', no one's gonna care how well the tune is programed in your set. You think that they are just gonna leave the floor, after you throw in a real awesome tune, but they didn't think it went well with the tune that you mixed it in too?? I think they would have to be a complete retard, if they did that. And I would think that they lost focus of what it is all about. The music first. Then the DJing. And if the music is constantly rockin' and the mixes are clean...why cry over spilt milk??
I think the only people who are anal about sticking to your genre are...DJs...So, on how you put your music together, in your set, who gives a about what other DJs think?? Those guys are probably jealous because you're getting booked and they're not. It's the people on the floor you gotta impress, in that regards. I consider myself a purist, too. But maybe a purist for different reasons.... |

Really liked the paulandrews mix, not a big fan of dubstep, but the mix covered a lot of ground and had great variety. One of the songs sounded almost like a sinister progressive trance song, layered over a dubstep beat, and I appreciated some of the more skippy, 2-step garage drum patterns popping up toward the end of the mix.
Also took a listen to the Nu Disco mix, I liked what I've heard, but it was a few weeks ago so I can't really comment and don't remember much else about it... will have to give further listens.
Shame the 2-step garage mix was never finished :( |

| I have considered making a new edition, yet couldn't be bothered with the rather thankless task so far. Give me another month or so and then start annoying me if I still haven't done it. |
