In this case, the time period is 70 years and the generation making the jokes is distanced enough from the horrible events of WWII that it all seems like good fun.

Not when your grandparents still have tattoo's on their arms from being in concentration camps.

and Ania, I don't care about being labeled a jew lol we joke about it. I'm like WEW look at my awesome jew-ness I saved $105 at the grocery store! :stongue:

Laser Removal
Today, lasers are the most common method of tattoo removal. They work by targeting the ink with pulses of highly concentrated light that break the ink into tiny fragments, which are then cleared away the your own immune system.

Problem solved, no more tattoos.

Why would they do that? They've been living with it for over 60 some odd years, and in their late seventies they should go get laser removal? That's ing retarded.

//edit

and, dip, removing that tattoo doesn't remove all of the horrific memories of watching people walk into the "shower" rooms to their death, and barely surviving, yourself.

I don't mind racist humour.. but it should still need to be humorous. That was my point. I wasn't saying that somethings are not to be joked about. I just don't understand how a random phrase becomes witty by the inclusion of taboo subject matter. If a joke is funny and happens to be racist, fantastic. What I find weird is the idea that antisemitism (to take one example) is inherently funny in and of itself. Like if I say "shut the up!" it's not funny at all but if I say "SHUT THE UP ZIONIST COMMI-JOO ROFL" to some people it somehow becomes immediately funny because I'm being antisemitic.

It's not so much an insult to my Jewish heritage (similar to yours) as an insult to my sense of humour. I like fairly intelligent, witty humour and I like low-brow slapstick humour but the above example, to me doesn't fit in either... it's just not funny.

Ahh yes, I am with you on a lot of the "funny" jew jokes being dumb. A lot of things aren't funny to me, but I don't laugh at that either just because people think you should.

Heh, funny to know that there are more of us Russian Jews around here. :D

So then what is? Please explain as none of us are clear on what you are referring to.

right but it does help remove the reminder. Its like if my wife cheated on me and then divorced me afterwards and i continue to wear her wedding ring as a reminder of what she did to me.

It simply stirs up anger hatred and vengence.

move on (not exactly so easy) but at least it may help.

to them, it would be like pretending it never happened - and they don't want to do that.

I think many of us Jews are of Russian descent. Me? I'm Russian and Polish. I'm doubly (triply?) fooked. :stongue:

The reason why so many of us don't want to be labeled is because only a couple generations ago our ancestors were literally branded with tattoos. It's close enough in our past that it still hurts quite a bit. Think about the numbers: 6 million Jews murdered. Only 60+ million of us are alive today. Imagine if 10% of the world's Christian population were killed off simply because of their religion. Wouldn't there be an outpouring sympathy for their faction?

Back to the numbers, 60+ million Jews are living among 6 billion other people. We make up about 1% of the entire population on Earth, yet we are constantly on the front pages of newspapers and interwebs sites world-wide due to our being attacked or our defending of Israel. Why the hell are all of you so fascinated with us?

That. While it doesnt remove memories, the mark is gone so youre not reminded of them all of the time. Unless you like to be reminded of that o course.

And if you want to talk horrific memories go ahead, i have plenty of stories to share. After all my grandfather acme from a large family. 9 brothers and sisters of which only 2 survived the war. THe only difference is they weent kept in a camp, they were hiding in forests and caves waging a guerilla war on the germans.

Okay, but Stalin sent 10m+ of his own people to just die.

No offense man, but you didn't experience it. You can tell stories all you want, but there is no replacement for being there.

Please explain to me how you can not be reminded of them all the time? That is just you being ignorant to think erasing a tattoo makes the "reminders" go away. The rubble that still exists all around the city is a reminder. Nightmares every single night of the pain and tortures are reminders. You don't just get rid of that stuff because you get rid of a tattoo.

and Nrg2Nfinit, I always see your point of view :) As I hope you see mine
