check out some basics online cocerning rule of thirds and composition, and maybe some technical stuff like what aperture is and what it does. other than that, i still stand by my original comment on actually going out and seeing what the camera can do. experiment.

and if you really feel like it, make assignments for yourself. take shots of people, buildings, b&w, shoot certain colors, basically anything.

i agree. trial and error is the only way to learn.
i get lots of people asking me what settings i use for a club but its hard to tell them because its always changing whenever the lights change.

agreed with the last 2 and for photoshop as well.

There's thousands of tutorials and books available online. You could even hit the library and learn as much as any paid for course would teach you.

there is really no point in buying any book. there is TONS of information available for free if you take the time to search on google.

i meant online books, not an actual book book.

So got my T1i in the mail yesterday, been playing around with it, cool pictures, nice machine!

Buuuuut, when was someone going to tell me that you can use the LCD screen to TAKE pictures not just review them and change settings?!

(unless i'm missing something?! I have not made it all the through the manual yet...)

PS - Don't get me wrong, LOVE the camera, just kinda put off that I have to use the viewfinder for each photo, sometimes like the simplicity of just seeing it on the screen...

Exactly, the LiveView has a slow reaction and it's hard to focus, it's only useful if you need to take a shot like right at the ground or like a landscape. If you're doing landscape use the LiveView and magnify 10x and manual focus till you get it perfect then go back to 1x and you'll get a sharp pic ;)

if you're gonan go with the LCD might as well just buy a point and shoot.
