Im considering taking up a photography class, and would like to purchase a decent DSLR camera.
Any advice on the best camera for beginners (yet I DO want to take this seriously, so although I want a beginners camera, I also dony mind paying for a very good camera in which to learn with!)
I am interested in the camera for travelling, and some night shots as well. Its important that I have a decent speed on the camera, and most omportantly, great clarity and color. I am not really interested in those super-lengthy-heavy lens's that professionals use, as I still need to carry it on my travels. the bulk of a dlsr is enough weight as is!
So far I have been looking at the Nikon 5000 and the Nikon D90....but I wont make a decision until I really research this thoroughly. Any advice? (also advice on which lens to purchase?) My budget is around $1500 USD.
thanks! |

| Why when someone is looking to get their first dslr, always looking at nikons first?? it's mind boggling, they must be doing some brain washing in their market campaign or something.:p |

I think people know quality when they see it..lol
As far as the choice between D5000 and D90, go with the D90. |

haha you got it..lol
Yankee...in all honesty you're good either way, Canon or Nikon. Personally I like the colors way better on the Nikons but you can't go wrong either way. |

i agree. canon and nikon are the two top manufacturers for dslr so you really cant go wrong. however, canon does have better glass. |

Canon lenses are much better.
Go with the 50D, or if you can get your hands on a used 5D, then go for it. That 5D will do everything you said and much more. |

What are you planning to shoot?
Coming from a guy who pretty recently got into DSLRs with a $1500 budget you can get a Canon 50D with a 17-85mm lens which is a pretty good walk around lens for everyday shooting. Or you can buy a XS/XSi if you wanna spend more money on a better lens. |
