Not that I'm counting how many elements of other genres in a genre can be heard, but I doubt that there are many genres which use that many elements of other genres. |
soooo you're saying that trance is one of the least original types of music
or that every trance song has bagpipes and pop rock verses |

| I'd still listen to trance if every track sampled bagpipes! |

yeah, but the question i attempt to answer is 'why?'
and in this particular thread we are not talking about people who don't listen to much music, but people who listen to only one narrow bit of it, a lot. |
the reason for me is that it's the only music that gives me goosebumps and feelings of euphoria. well...maybe coldplay does taht too :toothless |

again my question is why is that the only music? surely there is so much beautiful, beautiful music in the world with such a diverse breadth of emotional resonance!
because of this, I think that listening so obsessively to one kind of music is unhealthy - it's like you are obsessively binging on a narrow range of emotion. I think there has to be a psychological reason people do this - an imbalance or void to fill elsewhere in life - again this isn't about trance music, it's about listening to only one kind of music with narrow emotional range, whatever it may be. Even the OP admitted it was a type of 'syndrome', but I don't think this listening itself is the syndrome - like I said its a symptom of another syndrome.
Why do you obsessively crave only music which gives you feelings of euphoria? Are you depressed or something, unhappy with life as it is? I think a well-balanced person should have many variations of feelings all in moderation, and not rely on music to give them feelings of 'euphoria'. Don't get me wrong, I love music as much as life itself, but I don't medicate myself with it. I think that any obsession is a psychological disorder. Obviously some are more harmful than others.
Sometimes I joke to myself that this site, "Tranceaddict", is a recovery program :p
Don't worry tranceaddicts, there is a way out of your addiction! There is so much beauty out there to find, and once you start to look, it will keep coming and coming. It doesn't mean you can't like trance, but maybe you should consider why it is that you always listen to music that makes you feel a certain way, and assess if it isn't part of something larger...
i don't intend to preach or come across as offensive, but seriously, the world is made of so many colors. |

| Oh how I love EDM genre discussions. Have to be some of the most futile and utterly useless discussions in existence. |

I have a different problem as the OP. I become fanatical about a genre of music or a particular track, burn out and seek something new. For example, I grew up listening to classic rock from the 60's and 70's and today I can't bear to listen to it anymore. That makes me sad because I avoid a lot of great music from the past.
And finding new music that I love is becoming extremely hard to find.
It's like I'm developing an allergy to music. Maybe it's my old age & I'm becoming rigid.
My saving grace is I still love a wide range of EDM while on the dance floor. |

Given the way you're operating in very straightforward point-counter debate mode, I have to wonder what outcome you'd like from this debate. Presumably you would like it to end at some point, rather than spiralling off into an infinity of crossed wires. |

EDM general music taste in the world is bad. In Romania it's worse.
OT: TranceMB is an idiot. |

Well, I can't disagree on that. I always saw trance as a combination of synthesizer tracks with a disco beat, which isn't something very original.
And I don't think we should be waiting for something new to evolve, because IMO that won't happen. About everything has been tried also from a technical point of view.
I'm not saying at all every trance song has bagpipes and pop rock element. But I think many popular trance track will have these elements. As uplifting trance is pretty popular you'll see it at lot in that genre.
I wouldn't like to see all tracks having borrowed elements as tracks like A.M.R. - As Time Goes By are awesome too.
Not original at all though, but I don't think many ta's are searching for something new at all. In most other genres also nothing new appeared recently or even for decades.
Some elements of other genres are nice hear now or then, because otherwise it really would get borring. But if you don't like these elements and you're waiting for something new I guess trance has died many years ago for you. |

Nailed it!
Most trance is devoid of any and all surprise or curiosity to me. |
