I guess what I was trying to say is that you can say that about almost every EDM genre.
Guitars, vocals, drums, saxophones, pianos, sitars, etc. You can find a track in every genre with those elements. |

Yes, but I guess it's how they are used together which make it sound similar and make that you like it. Also another instrument can make that sound you like disappear. |

When i was younger i went through phases. Now (30) i pretty much draw from all of those phases to listen to a certain form of music according to mood. The fun part of this is not only that you end up building up quite a huge collection of physical music this way, but also that you notice how much other genres borrow from each other or how much trends are cyclical and tend to come back in almost every genre.
Today i listened to the drone channel on soma.fm, during my workout i listened to a david bowie album, and as i type this i am currently enjoying some trip hop that i have not listened to in awhile.
Variety really is the spice of life, and tomorrow will be something totally different in terms of listening materials. I love this way.:) |

I didn't say the genre had been overtaken by crap, I didn't say all experimental genres end up that way, I didn't say anything about innovation and I didn't say that there's no "intelligent" prog rock, so what exactly you disagree with in my post is a ing mystery. |

I think trance in particular is an acquired taste, what I mean is I don't think most people will like trance for the very first time they hear it. But after enough treatments of the best songs that strongly represent our genre or whatnot, in the end it pulls through but the mark it leaves on the listener is tremendous I think.
Anyway, I want your thoughts on this. Now. |
I didn't do E for 5 years so I have this Trance only syndrome , otherwise I can't dance/can't have fun/adrenaline / self-high (lol)/can't "feel"
but now with the help of E I can tolerate more varieties of EDM :-/ , sad :( |

With trance you can combine more elements of other genres. But if you then turn off e.g. vocals, guitars etc you still have something nice to listen to (however some think it's borring then.) I remember searching a lot for instrumental version of tracks in the 90's.
Today I enjoyed listening the Best of Enya. You can find elements of this back in Trance easily, but in other genres I think I wouldn't like it that much. Actually it turns a track on which you can't dance into a track you can dance at. I think that is what many people like.
Trance is very suited to combine elements you like from different genres. Cheesy and uplifting trance (with vocals) probably is that popular because it combines top40 like tracks (which already are popular) with trancy synths and rhythm. |

| That's how I like to think of it too. Most people think Trance is just a boring genre but in reality they are the ones whom are. Trance requires you to borrow tastes from all genres, like you specified, but it is seamlessly blended in to create one magnificent atmosphere/mood. I believe every trance track (the good ones at least) possess this very thing, which is why it takes us on the "trips" or the "emotional highs" every time we do listen to them. :D |

you have to be ing kidding.
show me where jazz, dub/reggae, r&b, folk, progressive rock, etc are borrowed in trance...
and the only connection trance music has to classical music is that producers rip off and loop melodies from symphonic music to cover up their lack of inspiration, and that it takes itself way too seriously.
i can put together an hour long house and techno set which incorporates all these genres in a far less superficial way.
you 'trance only' guys are seriously deluded - you can only see through your 'trance goggles'. |

Okay calm down, I didn't mean every type of genre out there. But what really matters is that it does incorporate a few. Really, like I said I listen to all other genres of music, but in terms of the one that has more elements than others, would be trance.
Sorry if I offended you by saying that, I just wanted to say trance really is a mixture of several, not just one, type of musical style.
