5 sexual assault suspects to surrender: police
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/st...uspects397.html

I totally agree with the alleged part..i think i got ahead of myself..i have always maintained that there are two sides to every story. I saw an interview with a guy that was accused of rape along with his four friends..the girl later retracted but the lives of these guys were pretty much destroyed at that point..what a ty thing to do..

So I humbly retract the "jerks"...:)

I'm not surprised they turned themselves in..smart thing to do at this point.

Kristina, sorry to disagree with you on this one, but I totally get what Liam says.

I agree many women these days send out wrong signals and play games, and then lead guys to feed their insecure egos only to blow them off after. I don't know what happened here, but I am leaning towards the chicks getting hammered and inviting the guys over only to change their minds later. Being a female, we get an advantage and it's easy to play the victim because the law will take your side 99% of the time. This being said from personal experience.

Yep. Although it doesn't excuse the guys if they were overly sleazy and dirty and if they did force their way into the hotel room then they deserve what they get.

What I would like to see is them increase the penalties for 'victims' that cry rape. Make the penalty of false accusation, as heavy as the penalty for rape itself.

It will be interesting how this case pans out.

IMO it is quite easy to assume there was some sort of mutual flirting at the beginning of their event. In this case, there are 5 people's testimony vs 2. And, the hotel and cabs will have video, which will probably show that everything was fine leading to the bedroom.

Wonder if any of the guys were smart enough to try and record their gang bang?

Video cameras are in some city taxis to protect cabbies' lives, but Soner Yasa's has also saved his reputation.

Yasa was falsely accused of sexual assault by four 19-year-old women he gave a ride to in April 2006.

The women made such a scene, Yasa says, that at one point his car was surrounded by a crowd of people who thought they had cornered a pervert.

But when the cops arrived, Yasa says, all he had to do was show them the video of the cab ride and he was spared an avalanche of humiliation.

Now Yasa's suing all four women for $60,000 each for the "mental and emotional stress" he says he's had to endure since then.

"I didn't do nothing," he says. "I didn't touch a hair on their heads, but if I had been charged, what would my wife have thought, or my two kids? I would have been in the media as an accused rapist.

"It could have cost me my job, and then who would hire me?"

His case has not been proven in court, but Yasa's statement of claim says his nightmare began as he sat parked one evening near Whyte Avenue.

The four women jumped "uninvited" into his taxi and asked him to take them to a residential area in the north side.

Yasa says the women were all drunk. Things turned ugly when one of them lit a cigarette in the cab and Yasa ordered her to put it out or face a $500 fine.

Just before reaching the destination, his claim says, the women assaulted him and jumped from the cab without paying the $13 fare.

Once out of the car, the women "knowingly and with malicious intent, falsely accused (Yasa) of sexually assaulting them as the reason for leaving the vehicle."

They started telling bystanders that Yasa had attacked them. Soon a crowd had gathered around the cab, causing Yasa "to fear for his life."

Yasa locked all his doors and phoned police.

Meanwhile, he said, several people outside his car also called police.

When the cops arrived, Yasa says, they were prepared to arrest him and charge him with sexually assaulting the women, but he convinced them to watch the video.

Police documents say that while sections of the video were too dark to determine what was going on, three of the women were tracked down by cops and "they all seemed apologetic for their actions."

The next day one of them contacted police "and stated that she was sorry for all of the trouble that she and her friends caused. She also admitted to being very intoxicated and stated that she could not clearly remember what occurred during the time spent in (Yasa's) cab."

The cop also collected the $13 cab fare the women owed Yasa.

However, the documents showed that no charges were ever laid against the women "due to lack of evidence."

Which brings us back to Yasa's lawsuit.

"I wanted them punished somehow," he says.

"This kind of thing could happen to anyone. My brother drives a cab, so he could be next."

In all, Yasa has three video cameras in his cab, along with a large sign warning everyone who gets in that they're on not-so-candid camera.

One faces forward so he has a video record of any accidents.

The other two keep an eye on his passengers, recording everything that does - and doesn't - go on inside his taxi.

taxi driver falsely accused of rape could receive a five-figure compensation payout after winning a landmark victory.
Clive Bishop, 49, says his life was ruined after a drunken 17-year-old passenger claimed he attacked her.
Kirsty Palmer later admitted she made up the allegations and was jailed for ten months for perverting the course of justice.

Humiliated: Clive Bishop, pictured with wife Sue, was falsely accused of rape by Kirsty Palmer
When he applied for compensation, Mr Bishop described how months of living under a cloud of 'slurs and lies' had caused him enormous suffering.
But the foster carer was twice refused a payout by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority on the grounds he had not come to physical harm.
That ruling has now been overturned on appeal - the first time the authority has agreed to compensate for the mental trauma of a false criminal accusation.
It is not known exactly how much he will receive but his lawyers estimate it could be up to £10,000.

Kirsty Palmer: Cried rape
Mr Bishop, who has fostered ten children with his wife Sue, picked
up Palmer in his taxi from a nightclub in February 2007. The mother of two was drunk and had already been sick.
But only hours after dropping her at her home, police arrived at Mr Bishop's house at 4.30am and arrested him in front of his wife on suspicion of rape.
Mr Bishop said: 'I kept trying to explain to the police that it was nonsense.
'But I kept being told to shut up. I was in shock but convinced that they'd realise I hadn't done anything and let me go.'
Mr Bishop was questioned for 12 hours before being subjected to 'humiliating' intimate forensic examinations and bailed. His taxi was also seized for forensic examination and he was under police scrutiny for a further three months.
Ostracised by his community, Mr Bishop says he tried to return to driving his taxi, but found himself unable to find work.
Months later, Palmer confessed that after being locked out of her house in her drunken state she had knocked on a neighbour's door and falsely claimed she had been raped.
But despite her admission, Mr Bishop was twice refused compensation because he had no physical injuries.
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority overturned those decisions last week at a closed hearing in Taunton, Somerset.
Mr Bishop will now undergo a psychological evaluation to determine the amount he will be eligible to receive before officially applying for compensation later this year.
The amount he gets will depend on the psychological damage he suffered from the incident as well as his lost earnings.
Yesterday Mr Bishop, from Walton in Somerset, told how he had been 'to hell and back'.
'It's been such a difficult time for me and my wife,' he said. 'They claim you are innocent until proven guilty but in reality that is not the case. People always assume the worst and we had to live with three months of slurs and lies about my character.
'That is why this ruling is so important to me - I could not ever drive a taxi again so this decision will make a huge difference to my life. I'm just so very happy and relieved.'
His lawyer Russell Pearce said: 'It is a landmark case - especially for all those who have suffered the extensive trauma that a false allegation can bring.
'This now means that in the future other people will be able to make an application, which is very important.'

lol loving the lack of and/or forced attempts to be PC.

i summarise this thread to one paragraph as follows:

"there are 5 ethnic minority origin undefined possible 905ers who everyone believes had the potential and opportunity to allegedly do some sexual misconduct that may fall anywhere from inappropriate physical contact to running a train on two young women whose virtue is agreed to be completely unknown. the conceivable range of actions that may or may not have been allegedly carried out by either the men as aggressors to possible sexual assault and/or the women as misleading seductive temptresses are each considered universally reprehensible in a poll of the opposite sex. it is assumed all involved were under the influence of alcohol."
