At first when I saw this at news, I thought hell this is really bad. And it is. But taking a look in these statistics it doesn't look THAT bad anymore.

So this oil spill is spewing about 5000 barrels per day, and the estimates are that it willtake maybe 3 months to block out. So if the outflow would stay the same for about 100 days it would still "only" result as 500 000 barrels of oil. Exxon waldez was 250 000 barrels, and it isn't even at the list of 10 worst oil spills.

The ecological effects will propably be disastrous, but my point is that you still can't think of it as some underwater volcano spewing out massive quantities of oil, it will still "just" be about tankerful of oil over the period it will hopefully be fixed.

YEEES! :stongue: I'm pretty sure the reason they can't summon Captain Planet to handle the spill is b/c the Hispanic planeteer is still getting his immigration papers together.

I think you're overlooking the obvious here. oil is NATURAL. it comes from the earth. how can it be bad for the earth? use a little common sense. If oil was bad for the earth, god wouldn't have put it there

Some very subtle sarcasm there.

There goes my beach vacation to the Gulf Coast. I weep for the delicious oysters and shrimp.
