L.A. Coliseum imposing temporary ban on raves after girl's death from suspected drug (pg. 2)

Ok, so how about no more NBA playoff games allowed at The Staples Center? It's too dangerous!

Oh wait, it's ok if people inflict harm on other people, but it's unacceptable for people to choose to do drugs and harm themselves. That's crossing the line!

They'll meet in July, and the promoters will sweet talk the politicians and agree to crack down on drug use, and everything will go back to normal.

I'd say just make the events 18+, but that will never fly because they'd make a whole lot less money.

Maybe Insomniac should tell their security guards to spend more time checking IDs and less time grabbing my balls.

You have no idea how difficult the underage dance permits are to get from thee city of LA.

I've been in those seminars (for a different permit)and the hoops they make you jump through and how much you have to pay for even a small group of people is unreal. I can't even imagine what it's like for an event such as EDC.

im in disgust atm. Why? because EDC is not a rave nor it will never be. A rave is a party held underground. Where there are few maybe 500 max and thats pushing it. Most venues back then held little over 100 to 300 people. EDC and all this huge events are just Parties or music carnivals. I seriously dont like it when the word Rave is used to describe these parties.... i guess im just old school, but raves havent been held since ooh i wanna say '99

'Rave' doesn't seem to have any precise definition and can be used extremely loosely (and always has been).

That said, if you look at the crowd at EDC you'd be hard pressed not to call it a rave. Just because these parties are officially sanctioned doesn't change much.

only way is to put an age limit imo. Kids these days are not educated and think anything related to dance/electronic music you HAVE to take drugs. They dont enjoy the music rather dressing up like idiots and doing drugs.

Thats a pretty big assumption that the kids are not enjoying the music and/or think that you HAVE to take drugs. I don't think it is true at all. Most of the ones I've encountered WANT to take drugs and are desperate for a chance to go out and be part of some big dance party and listen to music they don't really get to hear anywhere else. If we don't allow the younger generation good ways to ease into dance music culture and learn how to party like adults, then they're gonna learn via massives because those are the only parties available to them. What are all the under 21 year olds expected to do at these events? They can't drink. Of course they're going to do drugs.

If this country had a reasonable drinking age like the rest of the world I think it would help a lot.

The fact that a couple hundred people went to hospital after attending a 'rave' will always get headlines. Thank Joe Biden for a start. Plur has been dead for a long time.

The reason this is making headlines is that a 15 year old girl died and it should not have happened. Let's not ignore this. She shouldn't have even been allowed into this event. The promoters - and the security company - will hopefully have to answer for this. Bad karma for a start.

This is just another form of corporate greed. ******s.

Very well said. I have to side with you on this one. I know when I started raving it was just exactly how you described it here. We went out cause we wanted music we couldn't hear anywhere else and we wanted to escape from reality. Back then, it wasn't so much about rolling, but it was more about happy balloons, drinking and girls. That was an era when the super star DJ didn't exit yet, so we were more for the music.

You hit the nail in the head.

Any word on who or where the drugs were bought from? How do we know there was no malice or bad intent from those who want to bring on legislation and control. It only took a day and "no more Coliseum Raves" to happen, like I predicted in another thread. All they have to do is sell a kid a bad drug that would cause death, and then beat the supressive drums through the media and courts.

Someone made a good point in the other thread, ~1-1.5 Million people go to Love Parade in Germany, how many deaths on average each year?

Sure, and let's have 100k drunk kids leave the Coliseum and go driving around LA. This isn't like a football game where alcohol service stops after the 3rd quarter. This is EDC, where alcohol sales continued until the end of the night.

Let's all be realists here. EDM events = drug use en masse. That's how it's been for the 12 years or so that I've been involved in the underground, club, and festival scenes. The vast majority of us don't really have an issue with this; the problem is that 15-year olds are dying because they are neither mature nor responsible enough to enjoy themselves safely. Beyond that, these teenagers still have some physiological development to complete and taking drugs will be detrimental to that development process.

Make these events 18+ so that all the patrons are legally responsible for their own actions. If it's an issue of introducing the little ones to EDM, point them to iTunes or Beatport and let them jam out on their iPods or mobile phones.

Agreed, I was shocked first time I went to EDC last year and saw all these kids around. These kids cant even go alone to a rated R movie but its ok to go to music festival where everyone is on some kind of substance, and its not like its something that is kept low keyed.
