I was impressed how huge was the event in terms of the numbers. Kudos to Insomnia for being able to do that.

Statistically, 180,000 with 1 death is, really a super low number.

But that death (RIP), will hound Insomnia til the end and may cause bankruptcy. Its Insomnia's fault that a 15-year old got inside the venue thats supposed to be 16+ since it was their event. I foresee pointing of the blame between Insomnia and whoever they hired as Security agency, etc who was supposed to handle the entry. Currently, a lot of people are already coming out saying they did not carded.

I agree fully though that its not Insomnia's fault that the girl died. Its the girl, her parents and her friends, whoever she was with. But the law and more so, the politicians, will not distinguish or care about that. They are looking for a scapegoat. And Insomnia will be the one to take all the blame. With media on top of it (KTLA just shot a segment outside of King King saying there was a protest of ravers even if it was just a Do Lab party tonight), it just forces the hand of the authorities to find someone at fault.

Bottomline, the EDM scene and the girl named Sasha are the ones who lose the most.

KTLA stupidity

dude, it's INSOMNIAC ;)

From what I understand, EDC would have been all-ages if not for the Coliseum Commission insisting on 16+. Then, after agreeing to a 16+ age limit, the promoter did not enforce the age limit. We've read several statements that security was not checking identification upon entrance. EDC 2010 ended up being an all-ages event. How convenient for the promoter.

Your assuming the promoter was responsible for security. I doubt they were Insomniac employees. I would imagine these are the same people The Coliseum uses for all their events.

And btw, when we went thru the VIP entrance, there were LAPD right by the people searching. Why didn't they make sure everyone was 16. Seems like the ball was dropped by all. And we are assuming 16+ was a requirement as apposed to a suggestion.

How do you enforce 16+ when not all 16 year olds have IDs?

the sad part about the media coverage is that every "wannabe" musician is going to be interviewed.

Reporter asks:

"What do you think of EDC?"

DJ Luxor:

"Yeah, as a musician, i totally understand whats going on. And as a musician, I feel its wrong. All of the events I performed at as a musician all over the world have never had issues like this."

You can't, thats why you never hear of 16+ parties.

I feel a strong lawsuit from the Rodriguez family. Regardless if it was her fault she died from being E'd up, SHE SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN INSIDE AT THE ING PARTY. She was 15 for Christ sakes. I bet any lawyer that is a big lawyer is already knocking on the Rodriguez's door.

There will be some BIG changes after this death. The legislators already have a hard on with this subject, now they have a reason to re-write the laws with 100% control. These changes will even effect other non-edm events that go on in CA.

This WILL effect the massive scene as we know it, and unfortunately it won't be for the good.

A girl ing died, and it seems like no one cares. Are we that desensitized to death?

You can't blame the father. I would be doing worse if my daughter had died.

How do you know that the girl didn't lie to him and tell him she was going to see Panic at the disco? How do you know she wasn't a straight A student? How do you know that she didn't tell her dad the truth and said that it was just water?

You don't.

We can't blame the father for he didn't know OR failed to realize. Because I am sure your parents knew every single little detail of your life when you were 15...

Obviously its sad that a girl died but kids die all the time so its kind of pointless to get so worked up over this one in particular.

I was curious about this so I looked up the death rate for 15-25 year olds in the US. To save you the trouble it was 81.4 deaths per 100k in 2005. Given that EDC got 185k attendees (the overwhelming majority of whom are 15-25), statistically 150.59 of them would die at some point during the year, at a rate of .42 deaths/day, or .84 every 2 days. EDC had 1 death over 2 days, which is pretty much in line with the national average.

Simplistic analysis I know but I think its worth pointing out.

The Coliseum, the Promoter, Security and LAPD will all be questioned when this goes to court. And they'll all be pointing the finger at each other.

Like GPC said, everyone dropped the ball, but my guess is the Coliseum and Insomniac will be paying what could be a multi-million dollar settlement, since they were the parties that profited the most and they have the deepest pockets.
