Reporter asks:

"What do you think of EDC?"

DJ Luxor:

"Yeah, as a musician, i totally understand whats going on. And as a musician, I feel its wrong. All of the events I performed at as a musician all over the world have never had issues like this."

+10 points for Luxor reference :stongue:

What gets me is the whole "I thought she was just going to a concert" thing.

She WAS going to a concert. It's the same thing, just a different form of music.

People drink at concerts. People smoke up like nobody's business at concerts. I doubt either of these things would please her father. But if some guy bought a drink for his daughter and she got drunk, would he blame the concert venue? No, because he knows how alcohol works. He has personal experience with the drug, so he knows the score.

The only reason he's getting worked up is that kids there were doing drugs that he doesn't understand. So when his daughter plays dumb, he believes her, because he's also oblivious to the drug. If she tries to play dumb about alcohol? No dice.

it's terrible that a girl died. And there are a lot of people to hold accountable. Insomniac throwing these events for all ages is risky, and they should be smarter about it. The website should have a huge warning on it like Fresh-Squeezed saying "This is a drug-free event! No drugs, we WILL search you!". Instead, they just kind of hide it in the FAQ because they know being lax on drug policy means higher attendance.

I mean, this is 2010 in the USA. We have warning labels on Dr. Pepper bottles telling people to point it away from their face when opening it. Insomniac needs to get the with the program and at least cover their butt on these things. When you cut to the chase, it's their party. If I had a house party and somebody OD'd, fingers would be pointed at me for hosting the party. That's how it works.

Insomniac is too big for this to be it's demise even if someone died. I'd like to see them do more club stuff here in LA. I thought they had a weekly going for a minute what happened to that?

I have a gorgeous venue I'd love for someone to come take a look at in downtown and the venue owner wants EDM. Over $5mil invested since it's purchase and it's trying to find a captain to man the ship right now.

Insomniac where you at!? Leave the kids alone until this blood thirsty media finds something else to report on I say.

It is a ed up world no doubt, i just get annoyed when people try to make it seem EVEN MORE ed up than it already is. This "possibility" is something that everyone clings to when "daddy's little angel" comes home ed up on thizz because she would NEVER do something like that on her own, it's just those crazy raves where everyone is running around giving away free drugs to unsuspecting kids!

PS - my security pat down guy looked exactly like morgan freeman. Being groped by him was one of the highlights of my trip.

Yep. I would bet serious money the girl paid for and "knew" what she was doing. I put knew in quotes because...she knew it was ecstasy, but she probably didn't have a clue how to take care of herself while on it. Which is why she was complaining about headaches and a sore jaw the next day. Who the complains about that after hearing great music while on E? The general public is so uneducated about our scene...and the media is not helping.

Don't know for sure, but I have been a part of several (non-music) productions in both SF and LA(and Vegas once) and we were basically forced to use the groups we worked with at the venue.

you're talking about trade shows, yeah? i think i remember reading you mention something about one previously, that's why i ask. my mom works in the industry, actually - and i know from working with her company over summers how that goes. we'd go to set stuff up at the javitz in ny and, along with some other ppl who worked in their warehouse, we'd have to be very discreet about the work we did - since it was all union contracted and the union guys get paid an awful lot of money to do very little. each day..when they felt we were working too fast, getting too much done, or cutting down their hours they would speak to a floor guy and have us kicked out lol.

sorry to jump off topic.

If they get hit with punitive of 30 million and up, they're ed. Remember, media is on top of this and everyone in power is looking for a scapegoat to teach a lesson.

The responsibility should be on the Parents + Security to do their jobs.

Insomniac are just promoters, they dont have mind and body control over people, impossible on 180,000 people. Whats next? Blaming DJs and Producers for peoples independent doings?

Think they had different security for VIP area's. At least they were all wearing black suits and seemed to be a little more professional.

lmao, that was funny...

they should legalize drugs. we can raise taxes and shift the money to a good use. if we could increase the health of 10% of state, that would be really cool.

people are doing it anyway. since the use of drugs is widespread, loss to country would be similar. there would be more people experimenting, but more people will be discouraged too seeing how they are fkd up. i don't go to raves anymore. i just can't imagine breathing the air with 100K druggies.

it is like that kid asked 36 years old woman if she was doing it all her life. old woman proudly responded hell yeah, did you have any doubt? and another moron jumped up and said see kids drugs don't kill you, it will just fk you. lemme sell you some. you trust your pimp uncle don't you. if that kid was smart, she would have said, wait a minute, is this the way my life going down the drain? if she did not raise that question and she said you old woman is so cool, she is already lost whether she is 15, 18 or 21 years old. i rather sell her the drugs and make a profit out of it than a punk takes advantage of her.

Here's an LA Times article that doesn't just rip into the scene. It's a decent article (sorry if it's already been posted):

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/mus...y-carnival.html

The part that gets me is the whole "We don't expect those people at Hard LA, it'll be a more hip, Silver Lake type crowd".

I'm kind of a hipster. I love indie rock, and I like hipster hangouts... a lot of hipsters get coked up out of their minds at shows. Ever been to a dubstep show? Those people make trance shows look tame. I find it amusing that they think that crowd will cause less problems than trance/house fans. Give me a break.

For the record, hipsters and scenesters are different, but often confused. Hipsters are older and listen to stuff like The Arcade Fire. Scenesters are normally teenagers who wear all black with pink shoes and listen to LMFAO and Hollywood Undead. I'm assuming the latter were the ones causing problems at EDC.

Very true annnnnd it's election time yes? I hope this goes away with us asking whatever happened with it as opposed to the end of what I believe we all see as something positive for the music - Raves, techno parties, concerts, whatever you wanna call them.
