Yes, I have no experience being a woman. But, does a psychologist need to have been through a divorce himself to be able to help a patient who has just been through one?

But you're not a psychologist (or more relevant- a sociologist) and judging by your earlier sledging, not exactly empathetic to anyone's position in life or how they ended up where they are.

haha, i'll be OK. i've forgotten more about feminism than theresa will ever know.

Feminists by and large and detrimental to the general female population. "They are whiny bitches" may be crude, but it's pretty spot on.

Some women in large corporations also have this stupid idea in their heads that they need to prove themselves, when often they don't as they are in their position and being pushed forward because their potential has been realised.

Feminists are an extreme and extremism is generally negative.
I love it when over the top women piss of their biggest male supporters, and they don't even realise they should just shut the up and stop ruining it for the vast majority of other females.

Are you being serious?
Fledz
Absolutely. Give me a balanced person any day over someone that talks about how much they do for one group of people but ultimately alienates everyone else.

It's not the 1950s any more, it's 2010. Apart from some inequality still in the top level positions in companies as Lil mentioned, as far as my eyes can see there's quite a nice balance between men and women in Western society.

Unless, of course, you happen to speak a Romance language. Then you're part of the linguistically oppressed female population of the Western world...

Reminds me of a few months ago, after standing on a very long line at the supermarket for 20 min, I finally get within a couple yards of check out when this guy (not seeing the huge line) cuts in front of the woman in front of me, and even brought his wife with him. The woman they cut in front of was originally standing behind another woman, and I decided to wait in hopes that one of them would set things right.

When the woman who was cut in front of spoke up with, "Excuse me, but I was just standing behind her, you cut in front of us sir..." she was promptly disregarded with, "No you weren't, we were here!" and the guy just turned his back to her.

It only took me saying 5 words; "We were RIGHT BEHIND HER!" for the guy and his wife to step off line and let us pass. This is a problem. Her word should've been just as good as mine, but there are always factors besides gender that should be considered...
- she spoke politely, i shouted and made a forceful gesture (pointing @ the woman we were originally behind)
- they were all aged 40 - 50ish, I'm half their ages
- I was about a foot taller than all parties involved and had a crazy look in my eyes like I was about to stab someone (because I was lol)

Maybe if I'd been a small guy and asked politely, I would've been ignored too. If she'd been more forceful, she may have gotten the guy to move but would've been considered a bitch. Ultimately though, I shouldn't have had to speak up on her behalf and was doubly annoyed by that. :whip:

Ironically enough, I disregarded a woman in the same way just a few weeks after, but that bitch didn't know what she was talking about 'cause she was on the phone instead of paying attention lol. I'd been on line five minutes before she even stepped on line :p

Wait a minute, why do they refer to boats in the female term?

INEQUALITY! I DEMAND A 'MINISTER FOR MEN' TO BE PLACED IN THE PARLIAMENT!

Theresa- I'm sorry, but what the hell are you talking about? Are you stoned? You are not reading, or understanding what I have repeatedly explained.

Let me break this down for you one more time using the things I have already explained in previous posts. READ what I'm saying this time.

My point - what we understand to be "masculine" and "feminine" traits are not exclusive to a particular sex, and it isn't abnormal or deviant (or at least it shouldn't be) for a woman or a man to show signs of either one.

I never said they are exclusive to a particular sex, nor did I say it's deviant. This point you're making has nothing to do with the topic at large. It just looks like something clever you felt like saying.

quote:
You seem to believe that men and women should fit into their gender roles, and any deviation from this isn't normal/productive/good.

Really? Show me a single place where I demonstrated my belief of this. Here is me debunking that nonsense.

Sample 1:
quote:
I'm fine with women who take on masculine characteristics.. just not for me to be involved with on a personal level. Strictly from a business sense, I don't care if someone's male of female, hermaphrodite, or tranny- I'm all about results.

Sample 2:
quote:
I'm not saying it's objectionable for women to be that way, I'm merely pointing out a set of characteristics in overly career oriented women that can lead to difficulties in establishing a normal healthy marriage/family relationship.

Sample 3:
quote:
Some of them never had the nurturing qualities to begin with also, but those aren't the ones I was referring to. If that's what they want, fine for them; I have no problem with it. I'm just trying to make the argument that the traditional nuclear family can be adversely affected by overly career driven women.

quote:
Your points typically work for both men and women, so why does it matter? What you're saying isn't really note-worthy. So I guess I just don't understand... What is your point?

IT MATTERS BECAUSE THE TOPIC IS ABOUT FEMINISM!!! And the discussion went into overly career driven women and the possible consequences on the nuclear family as a result. You're the one going off topic on all kinds of tangents having nothing to do with my simple point. Stay with me:

Overly career driven women, seeking equality with their male counterparts, can become too much like the men they compete with in male dominated executive workplaces. In doing so, it is possible they can shed some of their nurturing womanly traits, thus making it more difficult for them to form relationships with men who want to be with a nurturing woman... especially if they're in super career woman mode for 20 years. That is all I'm saying.

quote:
This is what I am getting from your posts. I am ignoring all your other jibber and pointing out that within your jibber, you are constantly referring back to what you seem to think is normal behaviour. However, that "normal behaviour" is culturally specific and we are socialized to act in particular ways. Gender roles are not necessarily natural.

I'm not arguing that gender roles are necessarily natural. Basically, you are trying to defend your argument here, but admittedly doing so without actually reading what I'm saying. You are not actually interested in dialogue... you just want to blather with complex sounding psychobabble, thinking it will be above my head, hence rendering you victorious. You're just straying off topic... nothing else.

that guy was me a while ago! I didn't push in line, it was one of those places where customers all kinda mill about, jockeying for position to be served. i happened to be better at it than this less assertive woman, so got served first.

"I believe I was next young man"
PKC glances over shoulder, "Unlucky."

got my food and left :)
