are you actually surprised by this
I actually am amazed at how blatant this is, and I am not really a naive/gullible person. Even if I was not surprised, that is not the main point. Quite a lot of the Wikileaks cables have not surprised people; however, whereas before people could dismiss these arguments as just cheap tittle-tattle and rumours, the real value of the releases is that we finally have some evidence, and a basis for investigations do be conducted and justice to be administered. Some of these corporations thought that they could get away with it. If there are more of these kind of releases, the increased moral hazard of executives behaving in a criminal/immoral manner, would make them think twice, owing to the risk of prosecution. Just as with ordinary citizens, the fear itself of being caught by the police can be a very motivating factor, even if the actual chances of being nabbed are low. As such, fear is as much part of the crime-prevention strategy.

If he did become one... one of two things would happen... some bs that happened to Clinton (that no one should give a crap about) or something a la Kennedy.

How about we all join up and do our part to help the cause. No, I am not talking about participating in internet attacks. How about starting a public campaign (tell everyone) to boycott Amazon, Mastercard/Visa, etc - explain why. A good example would be Amazon selling the Wikileaks files. If people can spread the word and put a negative spotlight on these giants, negative publicity and daring alone will hurt those giants .... they really do care about their image, even if they dont show it. Remember how sensitive the American airlines were when some of the boycott videos went viral???
Come on, guys, dont just sit there and do nothing. I am not gonna sit and pretend everything is alright.

p.s. a good read about Assange's "rape" allegations. Does not integrate the allegations into a broader context but provides a rather detailed account of events
Alpha Male attracts 2 female admirers in quick succession.
Alpha Male and admirers do the predictable. Action ensues.
The admirers find out about each other and are pissed that they didn't have the exclusive faithful attention of the Alpha Male,
"Oooh what a bad bad man, we must punish him for doing the Alpha Male thing with us innocent admirers. Like, we are not groupies."
Result: Big Trouble

Toppling them is not even a realistic option, not even a consideration. There is no support base behind that move, you will have few supporters, maybe less than 1% of population (if you can gather them all in one place, too). Everyone else is busy texting, watching TV, shopping, in neverending commitments and bills, so on and on. People are quite happy in the material world, materialistic happiness. So what that it eats away their soul and degrades the whole aspect of being human? Who cares. We will one day become machines anyway, everything connected to the brain. In a world that somewhat resembles "Idiocracy".
I am starting an active campaign to boycott Amazon. I cut off Visa. Already have a few corporations on my no-go list, such as Walmart. I am hoping someone can make a Youtube video about Amazon and make it viral, hit a few million views, maybe that will hit their nerve. That will have a better effect than any DDOS attacks (which will not bring down Amazon as it is because they have spectacular servers and infrastructure).

I wish I could cut my visa... but they are the only people I get aeroplan points... True I could switch to American Express but no one accepts it :whip: As for Walmart I hated it before this whole TSA/Homeland Security . They put tons of mom/pop businesses into the ground. Don't forget to boycott Paypal. I wonder if people will boycott the US and its currency if they get their hands on Assange.

This is the problem with humanity in 2010. We have lost touch with everything. If we dont let go of this materialistic happniness I dont think we will ever see any real changes in this world. Sometimes I feel like we have become a bunch of zombies FFS.:o

We will never see any real change in the Western World. We rely too much on credit for everything. Its not so much about materialistic happiness as it is a standard of living we expect. We live above our means.
The idea of taking down businesses like mastercard and visa is just retarded.....it would be the downfall of western society.
Boycotting stores like Walmart ain't going to do anything because there are more then enough people out there who aren't going to care for the cause as much as they care for the low prices
