Variety truly is the spice of life, and listening to only trance may be harmful. That's why us old timers suggest changing it up every now and again; listen to some dubstep, drum n' bass, electro, minimal, techno, tech-house, deep house, reggae, and rock n' roll. It does a body & brain some good. |
haha, rock n' roll. I'm pretty sure most of us listen to non-EDM more than EDM. I listen to indie rock more than trance, but trance (along with progressive) is easily my favorite type of EDM, and has been since I started listening to it in the late 90s.
It's all personal taste. Stuff like tech house is dark and sexy, but if that's all I listened to I would be depressed, because it doesn't inspire optimism or joy. I grew up listening to lots of film and video game soundtracks, so I like my music to have more emotion in it.
Don't get me wrong, I listen to plenty of other EDM, and enjoy a lot of it. Trance and progressive always come out on top, though. |

Ah so that's his beef with Trance, Sean Tyas dogged him. Tyas is good, except for that Rhianna and Eminem mashup he just did. Garbage. However, he just did come out with a tech house track, one of his own, pretty bad ass. Is Syat Nes a house artist? Tracks like that give me new found respect for the subgenre.

No, this is not a joke. Brian sincerely believes this. I think he said it to Sean Tyas' face one time after Sean Tyas said, "What is this minimal crap!?!" (Referring to Brian's CD at an after-party in Hollywood)
While listening to trance may not turn everyone into an idiot, it may have that effect on some people. Further field studies must be conducted before absolute proof and causation is found to be true. At this point it may only be a correlating factor to the increasing amount of idiocy in American society.

Seriously does everyone think people who listen to trance only listen to trance? Last night I spent the night listening to Chopin Nocturnes, John Coltrane - Blue Train (in 24/192 at that!), PJ Harvey - Peel Sessions, and some Madonna lol. I like some of what Brian Scott does. Love, love, love the first Teknology. |

well thats cool and all and I agree on listening to different genres thats a given, and good for everyone, but his comment is just insulting and it makes him look like a en hater. the reason I use the word "en" is because he has it splashed around all over the place on his sig essentially calling all trance listeners (and producers) idiots.
Yeah we have freedom of speech but there are limits , you don't have to be offensive. I believe he should take that off his sig line, and make himself look smarter. or at least relax it so its not offensive.
the amount of idiocy in American society can be attributed to a lot more than listening to trance. Come on Jim you are a smart guy and I consider you a friend too, even though we only met once or twice.
EDM is all about community and community is all about tolerance. We tolerate your so you have to tolerate our . After all, its all an ART and it comes from the heart, right? Otherwise we are all headed in the wrong direction. (once again? and who is being the 'idiot' then?)
My point is , spread the love, not the hate.:D (unsubscribed) |

Since when has just listening to any one genre of music turned anyone into an idiot? Name one incident that doesn't involve drug use.

Only if you like the other genres of music. The point is to relieve stress and relax mentally when listening to music. If trance reduces stress levels the most for a particular person, and he/she doesn't like other genres of music, perhaps it is best for that person to listen only to trance. |
