AVALON was shut down last night during Steve Angello's set (pg. 7)

Isn't that the usual crowd at Avalon? I know there are some down to earth people who really know their EDM, but that place does attract temporary EDM noobs. Cause you know EDM is the in thing man. SHM, Deadmaus5 for life man... :P

the crowd was not a typical avalon crowd on saturday.. it was full of hollywood trash..while waiting in the ridiculous line.. i kept hearing pple go "omg i wanna hear steve angello...but hell this..lets just go back to the roosevelt and do some lines and jump in the pool"..

these dolled up chics had dropped in line at like 9:50 and at around 10:15 when they realized it was gonna cost $50 to get in..they said "aye yo..lets just go to Kress.. this "..these weren't your typical avalon crowd... it was a "omg i like that swedish house mafia track they play at XS/Surrender in Vegas..so lets go to avalon tonight and see Steve Angello"

u know them db's and washers can handle their lol :stongue:

concurred.. part of the reason why we left early

Funkagenda a week before had better crowds, less crowded, BETTER music IMO IMO IMO

Funkagenda > Steve Angello :D

but yea, circus deserves more bodies.

Upgrade the lighting, sound system and the music (especially!) and Circus will grow their clientelle. Seems pretty simple to me.

Yeah, I agree. Can only hope. Lets see what this weekend brings. I gotta admit.. seeing GO, thrill seekers, andy moor there was pretty epic. There was a point during Trista Ha set when he dropped some clean ass track.. I though. damn!!..trance like this is why i got into it 1000 years ago. My lady isn't into EdM and even she was like, "energy is freaking high"

Alas, what attracts people to this place is hump clubbing, that is, being in a crowd with a bunch of strangers so you feel the euphoria, while someone is 2 inches from you.. I got over that a long time ago.

correction: the average person.

i disagree totally. people go where the talent is. i've never heard someone say they don't want to go to Circus due to the sound or lighting...

I've been hearing that for sometime now, but I honestly think they have tweeked it. Lighting is good, I guess it depends on the engineer.

ever since circus opened up the whole other side the building, what is the total capacity at that place?

it would be super duper awesome if the giant promoters went back to circus... cause now the place holds like twice as much folks than when they were there ten yrs ago, no?

the djs don't want to play there b/c of the sound and lighting

curious, which DJs? LMD is pretty attentive when it comes to customer suggestions.

I agree that the booked talent will reign supreme over all other factors. But when faced with two viable music options with everything else remaining equal, most will choose the more modern venues. Avalon was heavily upgraded when it switched from The Palace. Vanguard was heavily upgraded when it switched from Qtopia. Circus still looks like a disco scene from the late 70s with the outdated lighting rig.

I've heard from reliable sources that many DJs won't play at Circus because of the mediocre sound system. It sounded decent in there before they opened up the 2nd half of the venue, initially for the Spundae White Party in 2006. Instead of upgrading the entire system to accommodate for twice the square footage, they flew only a couple extra "rear fill" stacks. Now there is this cavernous empty space behind a makeshift wall. Obviously the acoustics aren't the same as they once were with the permanent wall.

Many people know that I've ALWAYS touted Circus as the best raw venue in Los Angeles. It just needs some sprucing up. There was a time only a few years ago when people were gladly paying $20 (give or take) every Saturday night to go to Circus. 2000+ every week, no matter who was booked. Now, it's been pigeon-holed as a trance-only venue. Circus will NEVER be at capacity until a broader range of talent gets booked and/or the sound system is upgraded to a standard deemed worthy of the A-list DJs.
