We haven't done the side room @ Circus since Spundae was there :)

Not really. An attention to detail would bring back the headliners, which would bring the patrons back in droves.

i agree. but they don't care at Circus so its not happening...

remember Gene's been in busines for what..20-30 years there? he could care less what we think LOL...

Agreed to a certain extent. But I'm talking about the venue itself, not the people. The sound, the ever-changing decor, the blue/purple and red lighting that gives it a dark, subtle feeling of inhibition. These are the types of details that work on both the conscious and subconscious levels, adding to the overall sensory experience. Vanguard is similar, albeit less vampire-esque. Circus just seems to be lacking that "personality" that I find to be 100% complimentary to the whole EDM experience.

And as we've seen recently, he's just waiting for another upswing in the commercial real estate market so that he can sell the joint for a huge profit.

trance-only venue. Circus

I've noticed that. I may be down to go if I saw a house DJ I liked. I only went once back in 05 or 06 for Armin Van Buuren and DJ Faarsheed when I LOVED trance. These days, not so much.

I think one of the issues with Circus is that it's way too big. And unless you're brining in the IT DJ's, you're gonna have problems selling it out. IMO, Circus needs to be made into smaller venues. Another problem is that it's far away from everything. There's nothing around there. The neighborhood isn't exactly the best. I had my car get broken into once and they stole my DJ bag with a lot of my rare classic techno records.

Eeek, wrong answer.

I'd say marijuana is a lot safer that alcohol and it is somewhat still illegal in most states.

Alcohol is legal because we have a tradition of drinking that goes back thousands of years and it is easy to make. When we tried to ban alcohol during prohibition it was a disaster because too many people like to drink and there was a big supply (kinda like most drugs now).

We still don't know A LOT about the risks of moderate alcohol on the body. There have been a few studies during the past decade that seem to indicate alcohol in moderation (any alcohol, not just red wine) isn't just OK for you but may be beneficial compared to abstinence when looking at diseases like dementia and heart attacks. In some cases, heavy drinking may be the most beneficial for specific diseases (although there are nasty side effects, like a destroyed liver).

We still don't know A LOT of the risks of marijuana on the human body since it is illegal, which makes it very difficult to conduct good studies.

Of course the number of alcohol-related societal problems is much higher than the number of marijuana-related societal problems. More people drink alcohol more often than use marijuana because marijuana is illegal. If marijuana is legalized, I imagine marijuana-related problems (traffic accidents for example) would skyrocket since more people would be using.

Some fun links about the potential beneficial health effects of alcohol (there still is a lot of controversy):

Thing is, if Circus/LMD start booking house talent on Saturdays, they lose their die-hard trance fans and thrust themselves into competition with Vanguard, King King, and even Avalon.

The last thing Circus should do is start booking house instead of trance. They just need to book a big headliner every once in a while, so people add it to their mental rotation of places to go.

i bet some of them were not even women. you want good looking women at EDM events in CA, go check out san diego. San francisco has the coolest/friendliest people, but San diego has the most beautiful ladies who support the edm scene.

LA just has LA going for it, so it gets all the top talent.

LA DJ talent, SF venues, SD women in one place would be perfect.

dang, almost 4k.

well , giant should move back to circus, then they wouldn't have any problem getting shut down.

i mean, given the popularity of the talent that they bring in and since circus has the capacity... its a win win, no?

im not officially in the clubbing business and i know there are many other factors involved.....but even the digweed show on nye, couldnt that sell 3800 tickets....and angello, etc, couldnt they sell 3800 tickets and fill circus?

The LED wall at Circus is fantastic. But when you look up you see ducting, wiring, and the 70's neon lights. Compare to Avalon's sculpted plaster structure. Vanguard has the lights lowered so the ducting is less visible. Sutra has those cool light sticks.
Sound-wise the bass at Avalon shakes you; you feel it where you stand. At Circus the volume is loud but I rearly feel the bass.
