Review: Avicii NYE @ 99 Sudbury (pg. 13)

The last time I went to Sound Academy was for Time Fest two years ago. It's a shame that such a decent-sized venue has to make do with such middling volume levels.

(Also found the volume to be lacking the last time I went to Footwork, for the Carl Craig borefest. What can I say, I'm fussy when it comes to sound.)

This show is completely free to the general public as well as all NYE ticket holders.

After a few days of selling tickets for tomorrow's makeup event, that was just posted on the facebook event page (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=161713677208432)

WTFFF...

The promotions for the makeup event are looking just as retarded as the original.

PRESS RELEASE

TORONTO: January 3, 2011

The event marketers for the popular New Year's Eve event, So, We Dance? featuring Glenn Morrison and Avicii, regret that Toronto Police shut down the event at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, December 31st, 2010 due to safety concerns outside of the venue, 99 Sudbury in the Queen West area.

The scene outside of 99 Sudbury was deemed unsafe by Toronto Police when the combination of 1,500 ticket holders lining up to get into the venue and hundreds of non-ticket holders hoping to gain access to the event resulted in a swarm of people pushing to get in. People who had purchased tickets to another unaffiliated event taking place at 99 Sudbury were also found trying to sneak into the So, We Dance? event. The influx of non-ticket holders can be attributed to the increasing popularity of the Swedish DJ Avicii.

"We regret that we did not anticipate hundreds of people without tickets showing up on New Year's Eve hoping to scalp tickets, buy tickets at the door or sneak in," said the event marketers.

99 Sudbury granted the event marketers permission to sell 1,500 tickets and only 1,500 tickets were sold. The event was sold out on December 20th, 2010 but the event was not oversold. Once the event was sold out, event marketers informed the public that tickets would not be for sale at the door.

Avicii and Glenn Morrison arrived in Toronto on Friday, December 31st, 2010, checked into their hotel and did their sound checks that afternoon. Both DJs were ready to play their sets as planned but were told the event was cancelled at 11:30 p.m.

All ticket holders who purchased tickets through online ticketing companies (Club Zone, Want Tickets, Club Crawlers and Get Tickets) will be refunded by those ticketing companies starting January 5th. Service charges charged by the third party agents will not be refunded. More information for ticket holders who purchased hard tickets from sub promoters will be released soon on www.sowedance.com.

Event coordinators have organized a free Avicii show for all So, We Dance? ticket holders this Friday, January 7th at Sound Academy (11 Polson Street, Toronto) at 10:00 p.m. Ticket holders must show proof of purchase of the original So, We Dance? ticket in order to gain free access to this event.

"We feel terrible that so many people missed out on counting down to 2011 as they had planned. We hope that this free Avicii show will help make up for these unforeseen circumstances and give ticket holders a chance to re-do their New Year's Eve," said event marketers.

Please note that refunds will only be issued to those who purchased tickets for the So, We Dance? New Year's Eve event at 99 Sudbury.

Why continue selling tix to a free even AFTER the initial disaster if it's really FREE? (Also why add to the confusion to refunds off of ticketmaster?)

Man...what a storm.

something's fishy

me thinks neither of the Dj's are going to be there and to avoid dealing with angrier ppl later, they're refunding everything all together and hoping for bar sales lol.
Can't really see what ppl will do if it's free and none of the Dj's show up but that would be goddamn awful! Prob. better to stay away from this event!

i wonder if the purchases on ticketmaster are being refunded or if they are refusing to refund the convenience charges again.

i got stuck with 4 convenience charges of $17 or so for the NYE fiasco.
