EDM just attracts a crowd of very, very closed-minded people I guess. Analog vs. digital is just one of countless stupid debates I see constantly discussed here. Ah well.

Yeah, but it's not just here and it's not just the EDM crowd. I'd actually say that TA is pretty mild when it comes to analog vs. digital, especially in comparison to GS and KVR. Those guys get pretty hostile over it.

That's totally true - I've seen some guys have their parentage brought in to question because they suggested some piece of software could be as good as the beloved analogue hardware of yesteryear.

TBH, it's a pointless debate. Avid gear collectors (not avid the brand) will always defend tooth, claw and nail about how much better or real it sounds, yet to 99% of the population (and I daresay GS regulars) they would not tell the difference once it's in the mix.

I actually really don't give a either way. both have advantages and disadvantages and what matters way more is who is using the kit and what they get from it.

I've seen people have no.1 hits and make stunning music from notihing but freeware and I've seen the same from guys with $500,000 in vintage analogue gear do the same. By the same token, I've seen so much droos also come from both those parties and everything in between.

analog sounds random. i like to have control.

It's like the debate over vinyl and digital - It's largely a matter of personal preference, and the average person couldn't care less. Regarding the OP, however, I feel like it'll take the same route as vinyl - it'll eventually die out for a while, but then it'll get a big revival as people try to recreate an older, warmer sound.

I dunno, I wasn't even alive in the 80s. Did analog ever really die out?

In movies, it's all digital now and when you look at movies such as Avatar, it looks much better than old analog films.

No way. Nothing has surpased the look of Alien 1979 or Predator 1986.

yeah but most of them are engineers, so they polish the music. :)

Because all of these major companies like Roland would stop making huge sums of money on these overpriced keyboards off of all the brainwashed sheep...baaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.

Personally though, having made some stuff with an old moog, I find it really hard to get that sorta sound off of any kind of digital synth...It just seems fatter and more awesome for some reason. *shrug*
