And the parade, which was a major part of the event, is now a total illusion. A parade in the parking lot? Are they serious? You can't have a true parade in a parking lot, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves otherwise. A parade must be open to all, for all to see, on the city streets.

They will keep charging more and more money in subsequent years--the event has been taken over by the same commercialism that lovevolution pretends to speak out against.

It sucks that the S.F. officials wouldn't allow the event in the Civic Center, but there had to be a better alternative than Oakland.

I really think we should give them the benefit of the doubt here. I doubt anyone wanted it to go down in Oakland, but it was probably there only choice.

I am disappointed as anyone else, but I think the name of this event carries some weight and people will go regardless of where its at.

Good post!

Yeah, there are things not to like to be sure, but the event, in Oakland or not, is happening this year. I for one would rather have this than nothing, like last year. So it's not a true "parade" up Market, but whatever.

Simply put, you can not please everyone all the time. Personally, I like that its 18+. (even though the issues I've seen through the years have been with the 18-24 year olds...and not the 16 year olds.)

BART to/from Oakland is now an added part of the day and will prove to be interesting.

We have an intriguing twist to our trip this year too. My Wife's Nephew is 18 just getting into the scene and will be joining us from San Diego. (I will be 2x his age on the 22nd.) Looking forward to watching him experience this event and hopefully we can give him some pointers and a history lesson (of the scene/culture) along the way.

I have a few ideas for getting him into 21+ for the night, but could always use suggestions?.

Anyway, my biggest and ONLY real concern is the lack of events thus far for Sat. night.

People keep mentioning BART being right there.

People do realize BART was right there when it was in SF, too, right? Parade went by three BART stations and the festival took place just outside Civic Center station.

The BART mentions is because people are complaining that it's so far away in Oakland, but thats only a few minutes on BART.
Try driving almost two hours to events, and paying toll and gas both ways. Riding BART a few extra minutes is NOT that bad!!!

And the 18+ makes perfect sense, especially after having a 15yr old die in SoCal. If that happened at LoEv, the promoter would be more responsible than with 18+, why risk it? They already had to take a year off.

And I agree bstorm, at least there will be a LovEvolution 2011

DUDE WTF!! Still no awesome after party besides the official one?? There is Wompolution, but its at the Oakland metro and that place is wack. Terrible sound acoustics, no ventilation (at all), ghetto people breaking into cars, and a fat line wrapped around the block. What are we going to do?!??

Yeah you'd think there would be a few more afterparties announced by now.

This is true...but at least for us, BART has never been on the radar cuz its never had to be. We've always stayed in The City and an easy walk or cab ride to wherever we would be.

My point is that the BART ride to/from Oakland is going to be quite a sight and no doubt interesting. We plan to get there (Oak) at 11:30 and leave at some point mid afternoon to disco nap and prep for WHATEVER :nervous: Saturday night has in store....once events are released.

What you see is what you get, i think

Is BART going to be open past later hours? The Afterparty ends at 2 AM, and BART is usually closed by then on Saturday nights.

I doubt it. I don't think it's standard practice at all.
