you should make it out there Mikey. I would recommend hotwire, try www.betterbidding to figure out hotel before you book. Also if you are for certain headed that way saturday to stay in modesto, you could use the hotel tonight application at noon to see whats available and might be able to get a good deal for SF.

Stayed at the Westin St.Francis 2 weeks ago, there is literally one builing between the hotel and Ruby skye. Did a quick kayak search for you, $256 for saturday, its slim pickings this close to the date, that is actually a really good deal. 2 star best value inn and super 8 are in the $180's! (Ive got a code to save you $25 at the westin if youre interested).

knights inn south of market was $129. i stayed there once for a night just to sleep prior to a morning flight and they had free parking, which downtown SF will run you $35-$55 at some of the hotel garages.

oh

Modesto would be Sunday night. I usually have good luck on Priceline, you can usually bid lower than the Hotwire prices.

Less that 24 hours to go....

I am excited....no not like in previous years but still very much looking forward to an event in our backyard...albiet in the worse part of the backyard.

So no we don't get a three day weekend in the city but we do get one night of PLUR....

Dim the lights turn on the volume and lets dance....
MR STROKE
Well the parking lot sucks. Everything is way too spread out and it doesn't have the awesomeness(naked people, crazies, tall buildings, etc..) of being in the middle of the city. A lot less people this year too. So I assume the thousands of people that didn't go felt the same way? I am sure the high ticket price and week line up didn't help either. But its better than nothing....

Still had fun. Killer sets by Plump DJ's, Serge Devant, and Pendulum.

Love Lee pre party was sick. 7 hours of Deep, Techy, Sexy, madness by Burridge.

Next year abandon the parking lot and either- Golden Gate Park, back in the Civic Center, or maybe Treasure Island?

Crazy different vibe this year (for obvious reasons). But I still had a great time. And yeah, really noticed the numbers too. Maybe 20,000 this year? idk.

Walked around to a lot of floats and thought Plump DJ's were stand outs for sure, but pretty much went to see Markus (always seen him in clubs, never a festival), Gareth and Dash Berlin (afterparty).

I bet in 2 years or so it will be back in the city, when political pressure dies down..

But afterparty in Oracle was done top notch.
Markus killed again of course.
sadly had to leave a little before 12 though since Bart doesn't go all night, but still had a lot of fun. Oracle is top notch venue, wouldn't mind having to go there again though that's for sure.

I heard the event sucked. I'm not surprised by that at all. The organizers tried turning Lovevolution into a commercial production and along the way they killed the counterculture spirit of Lovevolution.

http://www.grooveeffect.com/art-mus...2011-recap-.php

Moving the event to Oakland was stupid. Having a parade in a parking lot was stupid. The 18+ rule was stupid. The no camcorder rule was stupid.

There was a lot of security at Lovevolution 2011 and they stood out like a sore thumb because of the small crowds. Too much security and not enough people equals a lousy event that just doesn't feel right.

There is no point to Lovevolution 2012 if it stays in Oakland. I highly recommend that people send an email to one of the organizers named Joshua Smith ([email protected]) and encourage him to move the event back to San Francisco for 2012. Smith is a good guy and is open to input and suggestions.

I imagine the 18+ rule was necessary to pull it off. Also means less liability issues.

I would like this event to be able to go back to all ages (because I like when I see parents bring their kids, even with all the crazies around), but I understand 18+ for now. And I won't be shocked if you don't see it go to All Ages for awhile.

The move to Oakland -- imagine it was necessary if they wanted to do any event. I am sure they tried in the city first. That said, "San Francisco" was as big of a part of LE as anything else. It's about the culture in SF. That culture doesn't exist in Oakland and the crazies aren't going to hop on bart or drive over there. They'd just wait another day and express themselves at the Folsom Street Fair today....

The banning of camcorders....what a horrible idea. Chances are is they don't want people posting vids of other people f*cked up from the event. Can't think of any others. But either way, it's dumb. Videos/pics/etc are what gets people hyped for next year....

This needs to be in SF again or not held at all. It was pretty sad to see what happened to such an amazing event... very disappointing. Markus saved it for me...

I disagree. I believe that this event will return to the same grounds, if the city of Oakland allows for it. Although the San Francisco days were lots of fun and we all had great memories, things at times must change due to the political climate, deaths in Germany, and the girl dying at EDC, which all had a negative effect and ed up things last year.

Anyhow, I think this event will take off in time again, we just need to stay positive. All these negative comments about either going back to SF or not being held are stupid. If you think it's that EASY, get involved and try to work with the city of San Francisco. You all make it sound like the organizers decided to pull away from the Downtown and make it a "commercial" event for the sake of making money.

YOU all know that ain't true specially when WATER was being sold at $1, loads of Portable Restrooms.

Anyhow, I wish the organizers much success. Although I do see some things that must be worked out, like spacing of floats, sound control and sounds limits or somthing. It was sad to see a small float have 3 people because of it's small sound system while another one next to them had 100+, juts because of the HUGE and SUPER LOAD system.

I (pretty much) said I understand it being in Oakland as I'm sure they tried to do it in SF. I don't blame them for that.

That said, the event will never be able to have the same vibe over there. There's nothing to be positive about. Could it have a good vibe? Sure. But I'd never expect it to be able to match what you get out of it being in the city. An actual parade down Market Street, the atmosphere, the SF culture is brings out (and you will never duplicate over there), the scenery, everything was such a big part of it. It can't be gotten again by having it at that location in Oakland. It's really that simple.

Another tip: Know when other events are happening, especially Insomniac events, and don't have it the same weekend. :p
