I sure hope it doesn't return to these grounds. Attendance was probably a third of what it was in the city and it didn't feel close to the same event held at Civic Center.

One of two things need to happen for this event to continue-

#1- Keep it at Oakland Colosseum, but scrap the entire float bull and "parade" aspect. I don't think there fooling anyone here. Make this an all out festival, charge top dollar ticket pricing, book huge headlining talent(Like Electric Daisy Carnival, or Electric Zoo) and make stages and tents instead of floats.

or

#2-Move it back into the city(Civic Center or Golden Gate Park) and make it donations again.

I am sure organizers did there best with what they had to work with, but judging from attendance they have to be very disappointed . I don't think a lot of people(including my self and friends) will return in 2012 if its the same event.

It is exactly the headliner thing that kills the vibe. The most of the people paid $25-$40 to see Skills' and Main Stage's superstar DJs. What about other floats? Most of their fans don't normally paid anything to see them specifically. Let's get to the basics: this event is about EDM DJ and producers, big or small, showcasing their music to existing and potential fans. Many EDM camps in SF were smart enough to see this and didn't bother to participate this year. Those other smaller EDM camps, who participated this year, learned the hard way that those headliners sucked in most of the crowd, providing no "trickling down" effect. It is pretty much similar to the failure of "trickle down" economy.

In other words, if it is to be same format and same location, not only most attendants wouldn't return, most floats won't return either.

I heard the event sucked. I'm not surprised by that at all. The organizers tried turning Lovevolution into a commercial production and along the way they killed the counterculture spirit of Lovevolution.

http://www.grooveeffect.com/art-mus...2011-recap-.php

Moving the event to Oakland was stupid. Having a parade in a parking lot was stupid. The 18+ rule was stupid. The no camcorder rule was stupid.

There was a lot of security at Lovevolution 2011 and they stood out like a sore thumb because of the small crowds. Too much security and not enough people equals a lousy event that just doesn't feel right.

There is no point to Lovevolution 2012 if it stays in Oakland. I highly recommend that people send an email to one of the organizers named Joshua Smith ([email protected]) and encourage him to move the event back to San Francisco for 2012. Smith is a good guy and is open to input and suggestions.

While some of your points are valid, most of your post is pointless and annoying.
LovEvolution in Oakland was a LOT better than LovEvolution 2010, which didn't happen at all......
Many of your facts, and especially the article you posted, were SO OFF....

Pretty well said.

So I will try to think of everything I had to say when I left the day party.

I missed the floats moving, but I was against this from the start, it's a parade, or it isn't...

The amount of bathrooms was amazing! Some hardly got used. Even if 5x as many people came, they still had more than enough. So thanks for doing that right (unlike any other promoter, ever)

Drinks were well priced, especially the $1 waters! Thanks for that!

Transit was ok, but not being able to get back to the city past midnight must have been a deal breaker for SO MANY people! Maybe next year do an After Party Bus to the city for those who need a ride home? Then people could at least take a taxi...

Sound bleeding was bad in some places. But thats to be expected imo. If they had twice the turnout it wouldn't have been a problem.

Ticket price for the "parade" was fine, $22 is NOTHING for hour and hours of fun! Come on people, seriously????? Who pays for those bathrooms? Cleanup? Mainstage (which was pretty cool, and not the first one as some people said), security, location, etc etc etc. That sh*t IS NOT FREE...... COME ON!
You'll pay $15 to sit in a movie for two hours, but complain about paying $20-$40 for 4-6 hours of music?

Floats were great this ear! Some really went all out. It was interesting to see some really large floats only have two or three people at them at some points in the day, but then later be PACKED....

Music was great!!! There was a float, with artists I'd never hear of, that totally rocked every time I passed it.... It was blue and white... I'm not even sure what they genre was that they were playing. Maybe electro? It was dark and heavy, like what Markus plays almost. Markus was F*CKING AMAZING!!!!!! that guy is the sh*t!!! Gareth was different from any other set, a lot darker and more electro than usual. Blake Jarrell was way better than I expected, so much more energy than I thought he'd play. Moby was Ok for about three song before he went to weird vocals with no beat and annoying synths, not my style i guess.

Biggest complains was paying ticketmaster $13 fees for a $22 ticket.

In all, I want it back in SF cuz Oakland is just not SF in so many ways! But it was better than nothing. It was sad to see less people show up, but I wasn't surprised. The organizers did the best with what they had, and everyone should be grateful that there was an event at all...

Thanks for making many of the same points I was going to make in my review, Tosh...now I don't have to write so much! LOL!

First and foremost, Lance:
Thank you guys for the wonderful pre-game event at your place…just a PERFECT way to start the day.

Ok, to the review:
For those who complain about door price: Buy a pre-sale for about ½ as much. (You can always figure out what to do with it if you can’t make the event.) To those of you who complain about location, remember: there was no event last year.

BART was super easy, not a 5 min. walk like normal, though we had a blast on the train!!! $8 and we got everywhere we needed to go, hassle free.

Multiple security, ID, Ticket checkpoints, I thought helped keep down what would have been a large backlog. And damn, did we appreciate the bathrooms outside!!

Our crew got there at about 1:30 and the floats where still moving. To be honest, I REALLY appreciated the effort to keep some sort of parade feel.

Before we got wristbands, the Tantra float rolled right by us, and I felt like I was back on Market for a second as I bounced with it over to a drink station. Beers in hand (reasonably priced, to be sure) we set a meeting point, and started our journey.

I thought the Dancetronauts float/stage was out of control…great all day. Oh and the free waters: REALLY nice touch, thanks!!! Jet Set / Clockwork also tremendous. I spent a good amount of time at Sacramento as well, saw some old friends and made some new ones!!!

6th Element really tore me up and I knew that I was in for a long night at that point, cuz I was already sore. LOL! Skills stage, had great production and the LED panels were sweet.

Yeah, there was sound bleed, but that was to be expected…and happens a lot. If you were right in front of any float/stage it wasn’t that bad. I really liked how open the middle was so that we could navigate the grounds, unlike 2009 in CCP where you couldn’t even move, let alone dance/walk. Would’ve loved about 10k more people, but again after 2009, I was soooo ok with it.

Security, the crew working the grounds, and many patrons, did an AMAZING job of keeping the area pretty clean. Maybe the higher ticket price, age limits, and distance to venue helped keep out some of the irresponsibility of years past. I did not see anyone to f’d off to walk or control themselves and saw smiles the whole day.

Our night was spent at Deeper Love, the UG headlined by Glaude. WOW!!! Everything I wanted, expected, and more. A DJ booth and dancefloor. A dark space with that true skool feel. Nothing but dark, dirty, deep house shaking the place down. It was great to see Donald go back to the style that helped get me into the scene.

We had a first timer with us, and I wanted to show him how this all started and why we love this culture. Its not always about glitz, high production, and ticket prices…it’s about music, love, and watching the floor move like a living organism controlled by the DJ. (Lot of Glaude haters on this board, but I think many of you would have been impressed. I know I was having become a bit disenfranchised with him in recent years.)

So to the LE organizers: THANK YOU SO MUCH and PLEASE bring this back in 2012, no matter the venue. Keep doing what you’re doing and we will be there. (Maybe just be a bit more forthcoming with information next year, but easier said than done.)

All very well said, thank you as well.

Smaller party is better than no party.

I do miss the overall SF vibe, though.

One thing I can say is, most people on TA are very jaded and very well informed, both leading to being picky. My friends who just love some good EDM and smiling faces, they have great things to say on facebook.

Thanks and all true. I'm jaded as well, but this event for some reason is just special to me.

Yeah, I had a real hard time walking to the Powell BART st. on Market, as I certainly missed seeing the normal craziness of 1000s of people all in their colors and anticipation.

Instead of us (collective us) looking and watching the unsupecting people who weren't there for LE get swept up in the vibe of the SF events of the past, people were watching us as we looked out of place...LOL.

However, if this event continues in Oakland, I will be ok with it and will ALWAYS remember the previous SF events. End of the day, I would rather have it Oakland than not at all.

Judging from the pics I seen on the day party, I'd say this event blew hard. Guess that's what happens when you commercialize something that was originally about the love and celebration of dance music. Oh well, the SF love parades will always be good memories for me.

SHUT UP!
Commercialize what? How? Everyone keeps saying this, but what are you talking about?

lets not get all worked up about it, people calling it "Commercialized" are the same people that probably did not even DONATED when the event was in San Francisco. Also, it's the same people that did not attend this year because $25 was too much too handle. They expect everything in life to be free. Cleaning? What cleaning? Security? I don't need it. Bathrooms? Oh someone just put them there. Permits? WHAT!! You actually need permits?

As many of you stated before, last year we had NO LOVE party. This YEAR we did. I'm for one HAPPY to see it back and hope for it be back next year!
DaveT
Last one in SF had a required $10 entry fee, that went entirely to the event and left-overs (hundreds of thousands of dollars I believe) were donated to charities. So it wasn't free if you wanted to go. It's just that $10 was going for a bigger purpose than just about the music and floats. It was about being free, exposing SF's culture (HUGE part of it), and helping those in need. It was non-profit. Now it appears to be for-profit (commercialized).

I think a big issue people have is that LoveParade/LoveFest/LovEvolution is supposed to have a purpose more than just about the music and the parade.

I think a big issue people have is that if they are going to organize an event, even if it's similar, where that purpose is not exactly there anymore...then don't call it LoveParade/LoveFest/LovEvolution. Make it a separate thing and then the day when LE can be done how it was originally visioned, then do another LE.

Trying to argue that a smaller one is better than nothing is not the argument to use considering what the event is and what it's supposed to mean. Well, you can use it all you want, but it's just a lost cause because the issue people have with the changes with LE this year are much bigger than it just about being $30.

Heck, take out people caring about the non-profit/for-profit stuff and I still guarantee you this - you keep it in SF and still have to charge that $30... and that crowd is at least twice as big still. You then put it on a different weekend (not the same as a big event in LA), and you can prob add another 15%-20%. Dunno of anyone who travelled in for the event this year.
